Dear,
To avoid the deaths of any more children in the war-ravaged island of East Timor, we urgently need
any supplies you can provide. The sort of humanitarian aid sought by East Timor includes
disposable medical supplies (surgical packs, gauze products, surgical wear, IV supplies), nutritionals
(oral/tube feeding, vitamins, pre-packaged beverages) and prescription and over-the-counter
pharmaceuticals for children and adults.
The US Department of Defense has made available planes to airlift these supplies to East Timor
within two weeks of today. Our partners, Operation USA and Counterpart International, working with
Timor Aid on the ground, will ensure that the supplies are delivered and documented to the relevant
clinics and community centers. People are not permitted to collect the supplies from the secure
warehouses set up by Timor Aid in Dili. Counterpart's Humanitarian Assistance Program works
closely with the Defense Department in many countries.
Counterparts affiliates, the Australian Foundation for the peoples of Asia and the Pacific (AFAP) and
Timor Aid, last week docked a mercy ship in Dill with 300 tons of aid. Our distribution lines are set
and we need more supplies urgently. All contributions are tax- deductible.
Please join in our efforts to rescue as many children as we possibly can. Your contribution and
dedication will be truly appreciated by Children Uniting Nations, as we are working closely with The
White House, the US Department of Defense and the United Nations. Please fax us and let us
know immediately what you have available to ship.
Sincerely,
Daphna Edwards Ziman

Dear Mr. Mitchell:
Thank you very much for your kind letter inviting the First Lady to serve as the
honorary chair of the events of the Children's United Nations celebrating the International
Day of Tolerance. Mrs. Clinton is pleased to accept your gracious invitation.
Although the upcoming official schedule will not permit Mrs. Clinton to attend
the awards ceremonies on November 15 and 16, 1999, she appreciates your
thoughtfulness and sends her best wishes for a successful event.
Because White House policy restricts the use of the First Lady's name, it is
necessary that we review any printed materials, including press releases, which mention
the First Lady's participation. My office can assure prompt review, but please allow two
weeks prior to press time. All materials for review should be sent by mail or facsimile to
Alice Pushkar, Director of First Lady's Correspondence. You may contact Ms. Pushkar
at the White House by phone at (202) 456-2941 or facsimile at (202) 456-5199.
The First Lady's agreement to serve is extended for this purpose only and is not
transferable to other functions or bodies.
Please do not hesitate to contact our office if we can be of further assistance to
you.

Dear Hillary,
I write to you from Melbourne, Australia, where I am visiting family for the Holidays. I must tell you that
it has been overwhelming to experience the reaction of the people outside the U.S to the crisis in Kosovo.
It is so hard to see the hundreds of thousands of children refugees on the news here. It is both cyc-opening
and humbling.
The impact of this crisis makes me more aware than ever of the crucial importance of the Children's United
Nations. Our goal is to show the true intention of the American people and all of the gubernatorial First
Ladies, in particular, you, our country's First Lady as well as the President: the effort to cry out for peace in
the world.
It is that kind of cffort needed desperately to make the world aware of the truth as it pertains to President
Slobodan Miloscvic and his manipulation of his own army to penetrate, rape and destroy the people of
Kosovo with no other motive than that of ethnic cleansing.
I've heard from my friend, an enormously courageous director who has managed to film hundreds of young
girls, ages ten to twelve, who have been raped and therefore discarded as they are viewed as tainted in their
own culurc. These rapes are a direct order to the soldiers as they penetrate Kosovo in an effort to climinate
masses of human life. Some of these girls will be willing to speak out at the Children's United Nations
Assembly.
Today, I will be meeting with Malcolm Frasier, former Prime Minister of Australia and Chairman of the
Interaction Counsel, the international organization of former Presidents and Prime Ministers. During our
phone conversation yesterday, he assured me that the Children's United Nations might bc the only way left
to shame the adult world into responsibility towards co-existence.
I believe that WC cannot wait until January 2000. I have written the President about the fact that we must
make an announcement about the Children's United Nations to the world. Perhaps we could begin by
explaining why WC have formed the Children's United Nations: to avoid precisely what is happening to the
people of Kosovo. It appears otherwise that America is being portrayed as the destroyer.
If you would like to contact me before my return to Los Angeles, you may reach mc at the Hotel Como in

Dear Mary Ellen:
Please thank Mrs. Clinton for her consideration and her patience. We are sorry that she
will be unable to join us for what promises to be a very special evening. With respect to
your concerns on credibility, I am in complete agreement. At this time we do not want
to create further work for you by making other requests of your office. It is my hope
that this incidence will not preclude our working together in the future, however, with
clearer communication.
For your background information, the following individuals have been confirmed as
attending and are being honored: Mikhail Gorbachev for Political Leadership, Zübin
Mehta for Classical Arts, Arnold Schwarzenegger for Performing Arts, Ambassador
Sacirbey for Peace Accords, Dr. Michael DeBakey for Science and Technology and George
Wein for Cultural Innovation. We will have the final two remaining individuals confirmed
by close of business tomorrow: Bishop Desmond Tutu and Linda Wachner.

Dear Hillary,
Richard
It was wonderful seeing you in Aspen. It was particularly a special moment
Hollbroke
for me as finally our hard work to establish an international millennium
assembly of the Children's United Nations is a reality. It was ironical that I
heard from the Secretary General an hour before I arrived in Aspen that the
give
United Nations has agreed to hand us over the opening ceremonies of the
opening
millennium project which will occur on the 5th, 6th, and 7th of September 2000.
The plan is on the 5th it will be an assembly for the children of the world, on
remarks
the 6th it will be an assembly for all heads of different countries of the world.
They will be accompanied by the children and will be responding to some of
the issues of concern brought up by the children. On the 6th there will be
resolutions that will be announced to pave the road towards the new
millennium.
This year on the 15th and 16th of November, the Children's United Nations
will be receiving a Peace Achievement award from the Friends of the United
Nations. The gala event for the big donors will be at the Plaza Hotel on the
15th of November, followed the next day by ceremonies at the United Nations
in the Delegate's dining room.
You cannot imagine how grateful I am for the encouragement and support that
you have given me and the Children's United Nations from the very
beginning, I so admire your genuine commitment to our children here in the
United States and in our Global Village.
It often surprises me how little people know about the many areas that you
have been able to pave the road for the future of our children. I therefore,
would like very much to extend my sincere commitment and support to you. I
have suggested to the United Nations that it would mean a great deal to me
and the Children's United Nations if you were the key note speaker either at

the gala event on the 15th of November at the Plaza Hotel or at the United
Nations ceremonies the next day at lunch.
As you are running for Senate your presence at the gala event would probably
be very helpful to your campaign. And, of course during the ceremonies at
the United Nations your presence would mean a great deal for all of us. The
event will be televised internationally.
There are several children that will also be receiving awards for their work on
behalf of peace and co-existence. I have been told that one of the awards will
be given by the Honorable Nelson Mandela. I have not yet been informed of
some of the other Heads of States that will be present. But I will furnish you
with that information as soon as I have it.
One thing that I am sure about is that during my acceptance speech I will be
speaking about you, your help and commitment to children. Obviously, I
would like to focus on your accomplishments on behalf of vulnerable children
in the United States and elsewhere in the world. Please let me know as soon
as possible if the 15th and/or 16th work for you.
As always I send you my love and devotion.

Dear Hillary,
I just wanted to let you know that I'm leaving for the refugee camps in Albania on a
rescue mission. Twenty of us are going, and the agenda for this trip includes the
following:
1)
We are transporting children (and some of their mothers) to Israel to absorption
centers, which have been arranged and are ready to receive them.
2)
We are bringing supplies with us to the refugees.
3)
We are also going to other refugee camps in Kosovo with food & medical
supplies.
We will depart Newark, NJ Monday, May 3, at 10:00 p.m. Upon our arrival in Israel, we
will board a plane carrying supplies, which we will deliver to Tirana and some of the
other neighboring refugee areas.
We will load planes with the children most in need, like the children who have lost their
parents. At this time, we hope to take these children as well as some parents to
absorption centers.
If there is anything else that I can do please let me know. Of course, we are happy to
help in any way possible.
Sincerely,

advocacy for programs to benefit children's welfare throughout America and the world
while providing the Children's United Nations a commanding symbolic leadership.
C.U.N. is a 501.c3 non-profit social service organization founded to give children
throughout the world a direct voice in their welfare by participating in the United Nations
process. California's First Lady, Sharon Davis is the President of the Honorary Board
along with a host of international dignitaries and celebrities that are currently joining the
board. C.U.N. has recently opened a full-time office with a professional program staff to
realize C.U.N.'s vision for children.
C.U.N. is planning to publicly launch the program with an inaugural signing ceremony
and press conference on or near June 26, 1999 in San Francisco. June 26th is the
anniversary of the signing of the original United Nations Charter in 1945. Because of its
historical and symbolic significance as the site of the original signing ceremony, the
Herbst Theater was selected as the venue. As an echo of that historic event, the
Children's United Nations Charter will be signed in the same room the original U.N.
signing took place.
C.U.N. would be honored to have your presence as the keynote presenter at the C.U.N.
launch. You would be joined by Governor Gray Davis and his wife Sharon, international
dignitaries, children from throughout the world, and Daphna Ziman.
The exact timing of the event is dependent upon your travel schedule. Currently, the
Herbst Theater is available from 9 am to 11 am on Friday, June 25th, and all day Sunday
and Monday June 27th and 28th. The entire signing ceremony and press conference will
be broadcast live to satellite to allow U.S. and international news organizations the
ability to directly receive and report on this notable occasion.
Once we have confirmed your acceptance to serve as the Honorary Chair of the
Children's United Nations, specific arrangements regarding your ability to commit to key

RE:
Children's United Nations
VIA FACSIMILE
Dear Hillary,
It was great seeing you twice in one day, especially at the Gray Davis election
party. It seems to me that in every speech that I make, I am always quoting or referring
to something you have said to me. I hold you in such high esteem that it breaks my heart
to see the injustice that you are facing.
Your genuine commitment to children has always warmed my heart. You deserve
to be awarded not hurt.
Dearest Hillary. I have recently founded the nucleus of a "Children's United
Nations". I have met with our Vice President Al Gore and now have the beginnings of a
committee that includes: Laurie Meadoff (City Kids), Steve Nissen (Head of California
State Bar), Mitchell Schwartz, Charlotte Parker (Parker PR), our new First Lady of
California Sharon Davis, Jenny Weisz (Public Counsel) Diane Stanfield (ABC Love),
Nancy Daly Riordan, Steve Grossman, Sharon Stone, Kelly Stone (Planet Hope) and we
are just beginning.
Sharon Davis is currently inviting all the First Ladies of their respective States to
join us, as honorary chairs. We want this to be a non-political event, so that in no way is
the attention taken away from the voices of the children.
In this spirit, It gives me great pleasure to extend an invitation to you to be the
Executive Chairperson for the "Children's United Nation". I believe no one deserves it
more.
I believe that we are on the brink of the "age of awareness". I believe that our
heads of state are ready to listen to the "children of the world".
We are, after all, asking the children to take over the world, as we leave it to
them. Should we not listen to their voices?
It has always amazed me how a child's voice can penetrate so deeply into our
soul.
On the 1st of January 2000, we hope to listen to children from all corners of the
world, as they tackle issues that effect us all. From nuclear power to biological warfare,
to ecology to children rights and animal rights.
Let us all take the first step into the next millenium by supporting the voices of
our children. I have attached a draft of the Children's United Nations Charter. Please call
me so that we can discuss this further.
I agree with you when you say we need to stop focusing on the negatives of this
country and start looking for solutions. We have seen what can happen in a country that
is divided by political issues - the murder of Prime Minister Rabin in Israel. I wish you,
your husband and Chelsea Happy Holidays and a very loving New Year.
Sincerely, the
Daphna Edwards Ziman

Children's United Nations
Session I
January 1, 2000
Children's United Nations is exactly that - A forum that allows 13-year-old children the
chance to openly discuss their cultural differences, world problems, and how to make the
world a better place for not only their generation, but generations to follow. This
enriching and exciting assembly plans to hold its inaugural meeting on January 1, 2000.
C.U.N. is an excellent first hand experience to share ideas and concerns on a global
context. By having representatives from each individual country meet in one place, these
children learn about each others countries, cultures, and international relationships, while
developing a global perspective on real issues confronting the world's community today.
During the year, the representatives chosen will receive information on topics that will be
discussed at the annual meeting. This preparation will culminate in a Children's United
Nations.
Children will immensely enjoy the setting of the real United Nations in New York City
and gain an experience that will last them a lifetime. Due to the authentic nature of the
material planned for discussion, they will draw experiences from their own personal day
to day life, to discuss with the other children from around the world.
Benefits to the Children:
Promotes awareness of global issues, current events and other cultures.
Sharpens leadership rolls.
Enables the representatives to teach other children about other cultures when they return
back to their native country.
Encourages understanding of other cultures.
Initiates independent motivation.
Educates Children from around the world.
A forum to discuss a solution for tomorrow's generation.
An Opportunity for Children to understand how the real UN works.
Children's United Nation Proposal
Chairperson Daphna Edwards Ziman
The intent of a "Children's United Nation", is for the children of the World to
discuss the threats and dangers of tomorrow's problems. These problems include nuclear
weapons, the abuse and pollution of the world's environment, the justice system as it
relates to the rights of children, food, over population, water and other concerns that will
effect the future of our world. When children understand how one country's actions can
activate a hazardous reaction that is felt worldwide, they may have a better understanding
of how to govern the world when the world is handed over to them.
Five children will be selected from each country as representatives in a proposed
Children's United Nations. The first session will be held on January 1, 2000. The
purpose is to have the next generation become more acutely aware of the different
cultures and problems that effect the future of our children across the entire world. We
know that a "Children's United Nation", will attract the media internationally and will
bring into focus the issues that effect our next generation.
When an experience is described as seen from the eyes of a child, it enables us all
to think about the future in a more socially conscious way.
So far, many sponsors including several airlines, the Milk Board, and Lehman
Brother etc. are willing to participate and help bring such an event into fruition.
Our next First Lady of California, Sharon Davis, is currently writing all the First
Lady's of the Nation to become honorable chairpersons for the Children's United
Nations.
"Taking the first step towards World Peace by bringing the Children of the World
together."

EDWARDS ENTERTAINMENT INTERNATIONAL
DAPHNA D. EDWARDS
Writer/Director/Producer
Daphna Edwards began her career in the entertainment industry when she founded
Unicorn Records, the first punk rock record company in the world. This company also
created the world known sub-label SST. Some of the well-known bands such as The
Germs, Black Flag, Wet Pionic and Minute Men were signed to this company. As a
record producer Daphna was nominated for a Grammy for the Nicole Graham album as
well as Joe Schemey's album "The Riper, The Finer." After having a number of albums
on the charts and becoming one of the most talked about labels on MCA, Daphna
achieved with Black Flag's "Damaged" the longest running number one album on the
independent chart.
Unicorn Records and Daphna were also the first to start producing videos for MTV.
Daphna then became a consultant to MTV and higher VJ's such as J.J. Jackson, in her
belief that VJ's ought to be musicologists. Dephins directed Black Flag's "Happy
Birthday" and "He Believes" videos which went on to win awards. The first
documentary that Daphna directed and wrote, "On the Brink of Anarchy," was shown on
PBS. Her short film (30 minutes) about a streetwalker, featuring Grace Jones, was the
first long form film to be shown on MTV.
Wanting to expand her horizon Daphna emerged out of the record business and went to
film school at UCLA where she achieved her Masters degree. Once she completed film
school Daphna worked with CBS developing several movies. When the head of
programming, Steve Mills, went to head Quintex, he attached Daphna to an overall deal
so she would go with him.
Soon after Daphna formed Edwards Entertainment. She wrote "Echoes In the Dark,"
which was bought by Francis Ford Coppolla, "Marriage," bought by Paramount, and co-
wrote "One Hand Clapping" with Peter Barnes, an Oscar nominee for "Enchanted April."
Daphna has also produced several movies.
"Footsteps" is Daphna's debut feature film as a writer and director. The film breaks new
ground by marrying the romantic thriller genre with social conscience issues.
She is now the chairperson for ABC love, (Adoption Brings Children Love). Daphna is
also involved with United Friends of the Children, a board member of Home Instruction
Program for Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) and a member of Women in Film. Daphna.
Edwards is an idealist who has spent most of her life fighting on behalf of children's
rights. Daphna is leading the fight to change the adoption process. President Clinton
recently passed an adoption law that Daphna initiated.

Dear Hillary:
I know your tremendous personal commitment to reversing the tragedy befalling the women and girls of
Afghanistan under the Taliban regime. I, too, am involved in the movement to draw public and
international attention to this issue, information on which is attached. One of my projects is the March 29,
1999, "11 Million Waiting to be Freed" event in Los Angeles, at which prominent women will be staging a
program to be aired internationally on radio and television in an attempt to bring hope to those suffering
from the brutalities of the regime. The event is a project of the Feminist Majority Foundation.
Mavis Leno is chairing the event and Linda Bloodworth-Thomason and Harry Thomason are producing an
extraordinary program. Senators Boxer and Feinstein are Honorary Co-Chairs. Journalists Leslie Stahl
and Margaret Carlson will participate; Anna Eleanor Roosevelt will read from her grandmother's writings;
entertainment luminaries and their daughters will be sharing the stage with dozens of others to read letters
written by Afghan women who are trapped in this abhorrent situation; Sidney Poitier, attending with his
daughters, will speak on human rights; there will be film footage and other forms of expression against the
gender apartheid these victims are suffering.
This event is so critical to launching public recognition of this terrible situation. I have proposed that after
this event, the Feminist Majority spearhead a vigil or rally at the United Nations, to be attended by women
throughout the country with prominent speakers, poetry, readings and the like. But we need the Los
Angeles event to be a success, to raise the money needed to keep this effort going forward.
I know how important this issue is to you. I also know how important your time in Los Angeles will be for
you and Chelsea at the end of March. But if you could find a way to lend your voice to this program, it
would be so meaningful. We would love to have you and Chelsea, as a mother-daughter pair, attend even
for a few brief moments.
Please speak to me about this when you can. I want so much for this effort to succeed. My heart breaks
for these women and girls and I will do all I can personally to help stop the savageness they are suffering.
Love,
Dayla E 3mail

HRC HANDWRITING
Dear Hillary,
It was wonderful seeing you in Aspen. It was particularly a special moment
for me as finally our hard work to establish an international millennium
assembly of the Children's United Nations is a reality. It was ironical that I
heard from the Secretary General an hour before I arrived in Aspen that the
United Nations has agreed to hand us over the opening ceremonies of the
millennium project which will occur on the 5ᵗʰ, 6th, and 7th of September 2000.
The plan is on the 5th it will be an assembly for the children of the world, on
the 6th it will be an assembly for all heads of different countries of the world.
Nations. The gala event for the big donors will be at the Plaza Hotel on the
15ᵗʰ of November, followed the next day by ceremonies at the United Nations
in the Delegate's dining room.
You cannot imagine how grateful I am for the encouragement and support that
you have given me and the Children's United Nations from the very
beginning. I so admire your genuine commitment to our children here in the
United States and in our Global Village.
It often surprises me how little people know about the many areas that you
have been able to pave the road for the future of our children. I therefore,
would like very much to extend my sincere commitment and support to you. I
have suggested to the United Nations that it would mean a great deal to me

the gala event on the 15th of November at the Plaza Hotel or at the United

Daphins directed Black Flag's "Happy
Soon after Daphna formed Edwards Entertainment She wrote "Echoes In the Dark,"
which was bought by Francis Ford Coppolla, "Marriage," bought by Paramount, and co-
wrote "One Hand Clapping" with Peter Barnes, an Oscar nominee for "Enchanted April."

Children's United Nations
VIA FACSIMILE
Dear Tara,
Per the attached letter from Price Mikhail Romanov, I am including the following
information regarding the "Children's United Nations".
My name is Dephna Edwards Ziman and I have recently founded the nucleus of a
"Children's United Nations". It started with a brainstorming session with our Vice
President Al Gore and snowballed into a wonderful committee that includes: Laurie
Meadoff (City Kids), Steve Nissen (Head of California State Bar), Mitchell Schwartz,
Charlotte Parker (Parker PR), our new First Lady of California Sharon Davis, Jenny
Weisz (Public Counsel) Diane Stanfield (ABC Love), Nancy Daly Riordon, Steve
Grossman, Sharon Stone, Kelly Stone (Planet Hope). Our First Lady Hillary Clinton has
expressed sincere interest in the "Children's United Nations". We have invited her to
become Executive Chair.
L
First I ady of California Sharon Davis is currently inviting all the other First
Ladies of the nation to join us, as honorary chairs. We want this to be a non-political
event, so that in no way is the attention taken away from the voices of the children.
I believe that we are on the brink of the "age of awareness". I believe that our
heads of state are ready to listen to the "children of the world".
We are, after all, asking the children to take over the world, as we leave it to
them. Should we not listen to their voices?
It has always amazed me how a child's voice can penetrate so deeply into our
soul.

Children's United Nations
Session I
January 1, 2000
Children's United Nations is exactly that- A forum that allows 13-year-old children the
chance to openly discuss their cultural differences, world problems, and how to make the
world a better place for not only their generation, but generations to follow. This
enriching and exciting assembly plans to hold its inaugural meeting on January 1, 2000.
C.U.N. is an excellent first hand experience to share ideas and concerns on a global
Benefits to the Children
Promotes awareness of global issues, current events and other cultures.
Sharpens leadership rolls.
Enables the representatives to teach other children about other cultures when they return
back to their native country.
Encourages understanding of other cultures.
Initiates independent motivation.
Educates Children from around the world.
A forum to discuss a solution for tomorrow's generation
An Opportunity for Children to understand how the real UN works.

Dear Mary Ellen & Shirley:
We are pleased to present to you the remarkable progress that the Children's
United Nations has made over the last month. As I explained, we hope that the
Children's United Nations will become a preeminent voice for this generation of
children and the next. We all feel a sense of responsibility that we are merely
borrowing the future from our children. That is why all of us working on this
program feel it is so profoundly important to invite the First Lady to be the
Honorary Chair of the Children's United Nations: melting the voice of wisdom and
political realism with the voices of youth and untarnished idealism.
You requested a detailed explanation of the specific programs of the Children's
United Nations. Please find an outline enclosed with this letter. We also wanted
to share with you the overwhelming response that we have received as we have
started building the honorary board. As you know Sharon Davis is the program's
Honorary President. We have also received written confirmation from the First
Lady's of New York, Illinois and Puerto Rico, along with verbal acceptances from
eleven other First Ladies. We have received declines from only five First Ladles
- Texas, Kansas, Arkansas, Louisiana and Oregon.
In addition to the inspiring response from the First Ladies, I had a generous
reception in Australia from Malcolm Fraser, the ex-Prime Minister of Australia.
Mr. Fraser is currently the Executive Director of the InterAction Council, the

On other fronts, I received a positive response during dinner with Princess
Michael of Kent last week to begin a campaign to enlist the support of the world's
leading royalty.
We have initiated programs to enlist partnerships and co-presentations with
several other leading personalities and organizations. By enlisting the moral
persuasiveness of leading advocate organizations such as UNICEF, with whom
we meet on April 27th in New York, Children's United Nations will begin laying
the foundation for a long-term, internationally cooperative effort, to ensure that
children's voices will be clearly heard at the United Nations.
My greatest enthusiasm is reserved for the remarkable progress that we've made
in producing the children's co-existence festival, one of our premier undertakings.
The festival will feature children from nations in conflict presenting collaborative
performances on stage. We've already received preliminary commitments from
Israeli, Palestinian and Jordanian groups, and should have confirmation shortly
from several other warring nations.
The Children's United Nations is officially inviting the First Lady to become
Honorary Chair to highlight her advocacy for children's programs throughout
America and the world. Her leadership in this matter is vital to demonstrate
America's effectiveness and commitment to children's issues. If our nation's
leadership cannot rally behind the Children's United Nations, we cannot expect
others to be first. The involvement of the First Lady is not only highly
appreciated, but indispensable in projecting America's authority on these
matters.

President William Jefferson Clinton
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
Washington, DC 20007
Dear Mr. President,
It was so wonderful to spend time with you in Aspen. Both you and Hillary
are so courageous and are making such a difference for our country and our
world. I was deeply saddened by Dan Dutko's accidental death. It was the
harshest possible way to end such an inspiring weekend. Your speech
during lunch at Mel Simon's home was brilliant and it certainly paved the path
for a Democratic commitment into the new millennium.
Speaking of commitments, I have been asked by Gladys Knight and Tony
Bennett on behalf of the entertainment industry to write to you to request
your presence on the 26th of September, 1999 at the motion picture, radio
and television's major gala weekend event, "A Family Celebration - One
Giant Leap for Humanity". It will benefit the Child Welfare League of
America, The Children's United Nations, We Care About Kids and the
Associates for Breast & Prostate Cancer Studies.
The weekend will start on the 25th and will carry through to the 27th. Vice
President AI Gore and Tipper Gore are Honorary Chairs of the event.
Literally every big donor in Los Angeles and hundreds of celebrities are
involved in this huge event. There are 1,800 people already committed to
the event and it will be televised nationally.
1 am humbled by the honor that will be given to me: "The Uniting Children of
the World Award". Your administration has exemplified the importance of the
private sector's involvement in the progress of children, health and
education. That is why a few words from you during this important weekend
would be crucial.
Please join us in our first "Giant Leap for Humanity" towards the new
millennium. Every person involved in the "Family Celebration" weekend
would like this event to set a precedence for the entire entertainment industry
- a process towards a more conscientious community in all its aspects.
Attached, you will find a copy of the program plan and the enormous VIP list
of the event committee. Please let me know if there is any way at all that you
can make yourself available to be the keynote speaker. I would also like to
extend a personal invitation to Hillary. The entertainment industry is in great
need and will appreciate your show of support.
With much love & respect to you and Hillary,
Daphna Edwards Ziman
P.S.
Thank you for your letter of response regarding Kosovo. We are currently in the
process of organizing another rescue mission to Kosovo, specifically aimed towards
medical help for the children who are suffering the damage of war. I would love to talk
to you about it. Please put me on your call sheet so that we can have a private
conversation soon.

Dear Mary Ellen,
Thank you so much for your call this morning.
1 understand that the First Lady cannot be in Los Angeles on the 26th of September for A
Family Celebration - One Giant Leap for Humanity, an event honoring the Children's
United Nations and me.
It would be greatly appreciated if we could receive a video from you featuring the First
Lady congratulating the other Honorees as well as the other charities. I will be happy to
write the script for the First Lady and, obviously, we will bear all of the costs. I believe
that such a video would certainly help to enlighten the members of the entertainment
industry who will be present at the event as to how important it is to focus our collective
attentions on the future of our planet and our children. I can't imagine anybody else's
words than the First Lady's being more appropriate.
Please relay my warm personal regards to Mrs. Clinton and, as usual, thank you and
Shirley Sagawa for all of your help.
Very Truly Yours,

Why:
The strength of our nation comes from strong, healthy families and from parents and
caregivers who have the information and resources they need to stay healthy and to build
homes filled with love and joy. This must become a priority, a way of life, so that American
children grow up healthy, safe, and thriving and become adults who are productive,
prosperous, inclusive, and always civil.
Who:
Associates for Breast & Prostrate Cancer Studies at the John Wayne Cancer Institute-
Ten years ago the ABCs was founded to fight breast cancer and fund the research of Dr.
Donald L. Morton, Director of the John Wayne Cancer Institute at St. Johns Hospital and
Health Center in Santa Monica. To date, they have raised millions of dollars towards the
eradication of breast and prostate cancer. Monies raised from this event will help Dr.
Morton and his associates continue their research in early detection and treatment of
breast and prostate cancer.

the garden of the United Nations. During the ceremony, 186 white pigeons will be set free as a
symbol of peace. The children will be dressed in their own national costumes and will sing the
song, "Children of the World." During the press conference, either a celebrity spokesperson or a
chosen child will ask the children of the world to plant a tree on Environmental Day, June 5,

Children Uniting Notions
On April 22, 2000, Children Uniting Nations with the full support of Delta Airline, Kafus
Environmental Industries and the United Nations celebrated Earth Day with an all-star celebrity
cast. The wildly popular band No Authority appeared, and the legendary Marvin Hamlisch
accompanied the Diva Aprile Millo, who lent their support for the sake of our environment. Our
event was a tremendous success based upon strong corporate and celebrity support We now ask
the media for their commitment to become messengers and bring attention to the ) million child
environmental refugees throughout the world who are dying at a rate of 7,000 pe! week. You
have seen some of the Ethiopian children refugees on television recently. It is only with your
help that our message of global environmental healing can be realized.
The United Nations Department of Public Information, in association with UN D. elopment
Programme, UN Children's Fund and UN Environment Programme, has asked its field offices
throughout the world to coordinate with local authorities for tree planting activities on June 5,
World Environment Day. UN offices in over 40 countries will receive specially prepared packets
containing kenaf seeds for distribution among local school children. The seeds have been
provided by the U.S.-based Kafus Environment Industries. Children Uniting Nations is one of
the co-sponsors of the international campaign.
On June 4, the eve of World Environment Day, we are holding a gala celebration nner at the
United Nations. Corporations, governments and celebrities have come together to assure the
success of this venture. Amold Schwarzenegger and Woody Harrelson will join us as our special
guests. Stevie Wonder, Dionne Warwick, Baba Maal, Aprile Millo and Francisco Casanova will
perform. On June 5, 2000 children in all corners of the earth will plant a kenaf tree for World
Environment Day.
The message recited on Earth Day by the child celebrities is:
"We ask that each one of you, our friends come forward and participate in
replenishing our mother earth. This is the earth we must protect. In spite of
all our differences, let us be the ones from this moment forward to set an
example of unity and eradicate any and all destruction on our beloved
planet earth. Let us be the ones to love our precious gift of life and cherish
the land upon which together we stand."
We appreciate your support and commitment as we strive to bring our message to the people of
the world.

Dear Ms. McGuire,
Please find enclosed a letter originally sent by Natabara Rolloson, the UNDP Green Office
Coordinator with The United Nations Development Programme, to Pam Cicetti. It contains a
special request for a meeting to introduce The First Lady to Sri Chinmoy, leader of the Peace
Meditation at the United Nations.
I feel Mr. Rollosson has been very eloquent in his letter. Therefore, instead of writing a
new request, and since you apparently were not copied on this one, I encourage you to read this
original letter.
I am very eager to arrange this meeting and look forward to hearing back from you
(310) 271-8421 at your earliest convenience. Thank you so much for your consideration.
Sincerely,

The White House
Washington, D.C. 20007
Dear Mrs. Clinton,
Ms. Daphna Edwards Ziman, with whom I have had the privilege of working on
the Tree of Life Celebration with children at the United Nations and around the world,
has encouraged me to approach you formally with a special request which she feels has
great merit. With utmost admiration, in my personal capacity I respectfully request an
audiençe with you for the opportunity to introduce you to Sri Chinmoy, leader of The
Peace Meditation at the United Nations. Sri Chinmoy would be deeply honoured TO
present you with the U Thant Peace Award and to have a small group of his students
perform two songs he has composed in your honour. We would be most grateful for the
privilege of sharing 15 minutes with you to express our heartfelt support in this way.
I understand that Ms. Ziman recently spoke with you regarding my request for
this meeting. When we discussed the proposed meeting and the presentation of the U
Thant Peace Award, she suggested that we do what we can to accommodate your
challenging campaign schedule, which of course we are delighted to do. We hope to offer
you a moment of peaceful celebration to energise you in your noble quest to serve the
great state of New York
In 1970, at the invitation of then Secretary-General U Tham, Sri Chinmoy began
leading twice-weekly non-denominational peace meditations at the United Nations for
delegates and staff. The U Thant Peace Award was established by The Peace Meditation
at the United Nations in memory of this great champion of peace, who drew strength for
his tireless dedication from his life of deep contemplation. Sri Chinmoy presents the
Award to individuals who, exemplifying the lofty spiritual ideals of the late United
Nations Secretary-General, have offered distinguished service toward the attainment of
world peace. Recipients include His Holiness Pope John Paul II, President Mikhail
Gorbachev, President Nelson Mandela and Mother Teresa.
Mrs. Clinton, you have undoubtedly seen the excellent documentary of Mother
Teresa's life, Love In Action, in which both you and Sri Chinmoy are featured on several
occasions. Your extremely profound comments on this modern saint touched the very
depths of Sri Chinmoy's heart.
Sri Chinmoy is a person of mulri-facered creativity who serves the goal of
universal peace through literature, music, art and sports. He has offered more than 500
Peace Concerts in countries on all continents, conveying the message of peace through

the universal language of inspirational music. The Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace
Run is a biennial international relay that fosters friendship, harmony and cooperation,
drawing the enthusiastic participation of tens of thousands of people-especially children-
-throughout the world. Sri Chinmoy's 1,300 published books and 10 million drawings of
birds representing the soul convey the beauty and depth of the human potential, tapped
through the self-discovery of meditation.
In the spirit of joy and self-giving, Sri Chinmoy would like to share with you some
of the ways he and his several hundred students in the State of New York are
encouraging your campaign. You may recall that, at a recent Long Island fundraiser with
Gary Ackerman, a group of us briefly expressed to you our enthusiastic support for your
candidacy, and I was thrilled that you invited me to hear your compelling speech for
World Aids Day at the United Nations. Sri Chinmoy has long been an avid supporter of
President Clinton and has written several letters to the President, while his students have
rallied behind the President in Washington on several occasions.
With the utmost eagerness, Mrs. Clinton, Sri Chinmoy looks forward to offering
you the U Thant Peace Award as a humble expression of his respect. I do hope there will
be a brief interlude for you to receive this symbolic acknowledgement of all that you have
done and all that you are aspiring to do for New York and for America
Yours sincerely,

Children Uniting Notions

On April 22, 2000, Children Uniting Nations with the full support of Delta Airline, Kafus
Environmental Industries and the United Nations celebrated Earth Day with an all-star celebrity
cast. The wildly popular band No Authority appeared, and the legendary Marvin Hamlisch
accompanied the Diva Aprile Millo, who lent their support for the sake of our vironment. Our
event was a tremendous success based upon strong corporate and celebrity support We now ask
the media for their commitment to become messengers and bring attention to the ) million child
environmental refugees throughout the world who are dying at a rate of 7,000 pe! week. You
have seen some of the Ethiopian children refugees on television recently. It is on, with your
help that our message of global environmental healing can be realized.
On June 4, the eve of World Environment Day, we are holding a gala celebration d nner at the
United Nations. Corporations, governments and celebrities have come together to assure the
success of this venture. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Woody Harrelson will join NS as our special
We appreciate your support and commitment as we strive to bring our message to the people of
the world.

Wright-Dunbar Legacy
Inspiration for the creation of the 1999 Lifetime Achievement/Global Youth Peace and Tolerance Awards, the
Wright-Dunbar Prize and the DaCapo Foundation's associated conflict-resolution festival was further spurred by the
cooperative and courageous spirits of the barrier-breaking Wright Brothers and African-American writer Paul
Laurence Dunbar.
The Wright brothers' engineering brilliance uplifted more than wings of flight in
Dayton, their inventions transformed the world into a neighborhood. Dunbar,
boyhood friend and classmate of Wilbur Wright (who later became Dunbar's
publisher), soared to heights on words as the first African-American writer to gain
recognition among international literary critics for his artistic expression of the
Black American idiom.
The Wright-Dunbar Prize
In recognition of their collaborative spirit, the Wright-Dunbar Prize is established to annually honor children or youth
groups that represent the power of the cultural and scientific arts to promote tolerance and peaceful reconciliation. An
international scholarship award along with a scholarship to 8 summer school program, will be presented at the Global
Youth Peace & Tolerance Awards ceremony each year at the United Nations, with prizes in the categories of Literary
Works, Fine Arts, Performing Arts, Film/Media, Science & Technology and Social Activism.

Daily News, and Chairman of the Inventing Flight Committee, along with Senator John Glenn, who serves as
Secretary General of the Wright Brothers 2003 Centennial of Inventing Flight, have been joined by civic leaders of the

final stages which will build upon the success of the first program. The hallmark event for CUN is the presentation of
the CUN Global Assembly at the United Nations September 1 - 7, 2000 to commemorate the United Nations
celebration of the Millennium.
