Collaborate to Create White House Holiday Greetings
CLEVELAND, OHIO (December 4, 2000) -- Today, First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton
unveiled the White House holiday greeting card, which was produced by American
Greetings for the eighth consecutive year.
"This year the President's holiday card features a watercolor painting of the White House
Yellow Oval Room decorated for the holidays," said Morry Weiss, American Greetings
Chairman. "Located on the second floor of the White House, in the First Family's living
quarters, the room pictured on the card serves as their living room.
"We are very pleased to have provided the President with his holiday cards for the past
eight years. This is the third year that nationally acclaimed artist Ray Ellis was selected
by the Clintons to collaborate with us in creating their card," added Weiss.
The First Family's holiday greetings inside the card read: "With warm and treasured
memories of our special time in the White House, our family sends you and yours our
heartfelt wishes for a joyous holiday season and a new year filled with peace and good
will."
The cards were designed at American Greetings world headquarters in Cleveland, Oh.,
and printed at the company's Corbin, Ky., plant, with finishings completed at its
Bardstown, Ky., facility.
White House card artist Ray Ellis, of Martha's Vineyard, is renowned for his exquisite
watercolor and oil paintings, which are in museums and private collections worldwide.

I will be covering the press preview of the White House Christmas decorations
for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. I have covered this event for the past
seven years for the Little Rock-based newspaper. But since I left the paper
earlier this year, I will be freelancing the story from my home. I would
appreciate it if you could send me any advance releases you have -- either by
calling me at (703) 257-3320 or by sending e-mail to [email protected].
(Sorry, but I don't have a fax machine!)
I'll be writing a major story for the following Sunday's paper. In addition
to the overall info that your office usually puts out, I'll be looking for
the names of any Arkansans who contributed ornaments or who will be
performing during the holiday season. Also, a group of five to ten Arkansans
has come to the White House every year during the Clinton administration to
help put the decorations up, usually working with florist Nancy Clark. These
people's names aren't generally included with the stuff for the press, but
I"ve been able to get them either through your office or from Nancy Clark. I
would like to be able to include these people in the story again, if you can
help me get their names.
