I am pleased to send you a complimentary copy of Steer, Row or Abandon Ship?
Rethinking the Federal Role for Children, Youth & Families. This special report is based
on Congressional testimony by Margaret Dunkle, Director of the IEL Policy Exchange.
It encourages all of us to rethink the federal role for children, youth and families, and
urges the federal government to steer more and row less.
Also enclosed is information about two other recent Policy Exchange publications:
Flexibility in Federal Education Programs is a user-friendly guide that gives plain-
English explanations of important, but complicated, federal provisions schools
can use to improve educational outcomes for children-from waivers to
reducing red tape. This Guide Book is a joint project with the Center on
Education Policy.
The New Oregon Trail-Accountability for Results describes lessons learned about
education, health and other programs for children and families during a Policy
Exchange site visit to Oregon. This document is written to help other states
and communities understand the priorities of Oregon policy makers and the
challenges as well as promise of making government accountable for results.
