Dear Friends:
I am pleased to have this opportunity to
send greetings to each of you attending the
opening of the exhibit "Letters in Gold: Ottoman
Calligraphy from the Sakip Sabanci Collection,
Istanbul" at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Art has the power to evoke in each of us a
deeper understanding of our lives and of the
world around us. The approach of a new century
brings with it great global and technological
change occurring at a pace that challenges our
capacity for human comprehension and adjustment.
I am grateful for individuals like Sakip Sabanci
who recognize the need to preserve the world's
culture and heritage. The works of artists like
Seyh Hamdullah and Sami Efendi demonstrate that
in diversity is strength. This exhibit of
Ottoman calligraphy unites us in a appreciation
of our rich cultural heritage and reminds us of
our human powers to imagine and create. It
challenges us to embrace the future confident
that with an open mind and a lively spirit we
will find in the next century and the new
millennium a universe of possibilities for our
creative gifts.
Please accept my best wishes for a wonderful
evening.
Sincerely yours,
Hillary Rodham Clinton

Dear Mr. Berger:
We would like to propose that President and First Lady consider a visit to Beijing United
Family Hospital during their June trip to China. A dedication ceremony timed for their
visit would be a special opportunity directly related to the President's and First Lady's
interest in healthcare and would also serve to highlight the positive role of American
entrepreneurship in China on a uniquely human scale. Additionally, the Hospital's
emphasis on women's and children's healthcare complements the First Lady's previous trip
to Beijing during the Women's Conference in 1995.
Beijing United Family Hospital is a 90/10 joint venture between Chindex and the Chinese
Academy of Medical Sciences. Chindex is a NASDAQ-listed U.S. company founded in
1981 by two American women, and has been a leading exporter of American medical
equipment to China's healthcare professionals.
With several American babies already born at Beijing United Family Hospital since the
opening of inpatient services this month, the Hospital believes its role not only to be as a
service to the international community of Beijing, but also as a model, introducing the best
of U.S. patient-centered healthcare services to Chinese medical professionals.

PROPOSAL FOR PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON
AND FIRST LADY HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON
TO VISIT BEIJING UNITED FAMILY HOSPITAL
DURING THE JUNE PRESIDENTIAL TRIP TO CHINA
While in Beijing, a visit by the President and First Lady to Beijing United Family Hospital
could serve to underscore both the President's and First Lady's concern about healthcare,
and at the same time, to recognize an American small business success story. Among the
possibilities for a specific activity for the event, a visit to Beijing United Family Hospital
could serve as a venue for a speech or for a meeting with members of the American
community or with Chinese health officials. The Hospital has not held a formal opening
ceremony, so an appropriate activity along these lines could also be arranged.
Beijing United Family Hospital. The Beijing United Family Hospital project was
conceived and established by a small American company, Chindex, whose two founders
have lived in Beijing for more than seventeen years. Roberta Lipson and Elyse Silverberg,
both originally from New York, have raised their families in Beijing and have firsthand
knowledge of the need for top quality healthcare for expatriate families as well as Chinese
citizens. Throughout their residence in Beijing, they have been active in China health
issues and have been dedicated to contributing to the community at large. In 1995,
Chindex decided to build the first Western-standard primary care hospital in China.
An American Joint Venture Hospital. Beijing United Family Hospital is the first
American private hospital venture in China. It is a joint venture between Chindex and the
Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. Currently in its first phase of development, the
Hospital is a 20-bed facility, with second phase plans to reach a size of 80-100 beds. The
Hospital began providing partial services in September of 1997 and, as of February 1998,
has opened for both inpatient and outpatient services. The first baby was delivered at the
Hospital in early March of this year.
Top Quality Healthcare for Women, Children, and Families. Beijing United Family
Hospital specializes in family healthcare, including inpatient and outpatient OB/GYN,
pediatrics, and general internal medicine. The Hospital features seven home-like,
comfortable birthing suites, two operating suites, and a large outpatient clinic, all of which
utilize modern, high-tech U.S. medical equipment and employ a team of Western and
Chinese medical professionals.
Proposal

American Medical Technology and Patient-Centered Care. While providing top
quality healthcare at a reasonable cost is the primary goal of Beijing United Family
Hospital, the facility also serves as a showcase for American high-tech medical
technology. It serves as an opportunity to introduce American-style patient-centered care
to the greater Chinese community and set the stage for further U.S. investment in the
Chinese healthcare sector.
Education and Community Focus at Beijing United Family Hospital. In addition to
its goal of providing top quality healthcare, Beijing United Family Hospital aims to
provide a common venue for community-based healthcare education and training forums.
The Community 'Yurt' is currently the venue for healthcare education classes including
CPR, Lamaze and Stress Management, and serves as a meeting place for existing women's
groups and children's organizations.
Introducing a New Standard of Healthcare in China. Beijing United Family Hospital
not only is bringing a new level of care to China's capital, but Chindex has also envisioned
an important role for the Hospital in serving as an educational model for the future
development of China's healthcare system, a goal which has been encouraged by local
health officials. Beijing United Family Hospital is the first in what is planned to be a series
of sophisticated small hospitals throughout China. And, while Beijing United Family
Hospital is drawing most of its patients from the expatriate community, future hospitals
established by Chindex will directly serve the growing Chinese middle class who are
anxious for quality family healthcare. Discussions are now underway with both Stanford
University/UCSF and Johns Hopkins University to form an alliance of cooperative
programs in China.
Chindex: An American Success Story. Chindex began as a two-person company in
1981, and has grown to a public company listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange with
over 200 employees. Since its inception, Chindex has been involved in the healthcare
sector in China, beginning with distributing U.S. capital medical equipment, and now
encompassing initiatives including healthcare consumable products distribution,
pharmaceutical products registration and distribution, and primary healthcare delivery.
Chindex has proudly become a premier comprehensive healthcare company in the People's
Republic of China.

business is selling and marketing for-

Last year, healthcare product distri-

may change because Chindex has
made healthcare services a central
part of its strategic growth plan. By the

H
ow best can we exhibit this splendid success? When generations in the future
look through the libraries viewing life in the 20th century, they will see books
written for enjoyment or profit, and computers with news stories showing us at our
very worst. There is little available information telling the positive story of the

The family who now has a future, educated and successful children, a retirement

intricate part of who we are now, at the turn of the millenium.
"T

our times and preserve our stories for future generations to study. It also
allows the students of today to research the steps necessary to be successful today.
The program collects, digests, and displays the data in an exciting manner,
providing the story of how our predecessors built the great country we have today
The millennium will be a very special time for all of us. Let this be our gift to the

Hillary Rodham Clinton
First Lady of the United States
The White House
Washington, DC
Dear Mrs. Clinton:
As a long-time student of the former Soviet Union, I followed your recent
trip to that part of the world with great interest. You were an eloquent
supporter of the development of civil society, with its attendant values of
political pluralism, respect for cultural and ethnic diversity, the development
of the rule of law, and encouragement of equality of opportunity and access to
the benefits of society. The impact of your trip in the region has been quite
profound
I write you today with the hope of interesting you in what I believe would be
an excellent opportunity to broaden and deepen the impact you already have
had in that part of the world.
This year, 1998, marks a unique date in the history of the country of Georgia,
the 2600th anniversary of coming of the first Jews to Georgia. Under the
initiative of President Shevardnadze, the Government of Georgia is
organizing a week-long cultural festival in Tbilisi to honor this historic
occasion. Georgians are justly proud of their long tradition of religious
tolerance which has made the history of Jews in Georgia quite distinct when
compared with their fate in neighboring regions. The celebration is a joint
effort between the Georgian and Jewish communities both in Georgia and
abroad.
At the same time this celebration is broader for it intends to utilize the
Georgian-Jewish relationship as an example of the way ethnic and religious
relations among peoples ought to be. In short, President Shevardnadze hopes
to emphasize through this celebration the need for the development of civil

society in the culturally, religiously and ethically diverse region of the
Caucasus.
President Shevardnadze would like to personally invite a very select group of
distinguished Americans to participate in this celebration, which is scheduled
for September 9-13, 1998. For a number of reasons which I have detailed
below, President Shevardnadze has asked me to serve as his representative to
initiate discussions with Americans. I can think of no one who would be
more appropriate to participate in and speak at this celebration than you.
You would be the President's personal guest and the program would be
arranged as you wish. I would hope that you would be willing to speak to a
major gathering to celebrate those values you have so eloquently espoused
elsewhere. I believe that your presence would be the highlight of this
celebration.
I would be happy to meet with your staff to discuss any questions you might
have, but let me take this opportunity to provide you with some more
information on the events in Georgia, our Foundation and our involvement
in Georgia.
I am the President of the Foundation for International Arts and Exhibitions, a
non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and presentation of the
arts and culture of the countries of the former Soviet Union. Our current
focus is on the culture and history of the country of Georgia. Although
decades of Soviet, and prior Russian, domination have kept this country
relatively isolated and unknown to most of the world, the country of Georgia
has been able to maintain its own unique brand of fiery individualism. It is a
country with a history that is 5,000 years old and a future, under the
leadership of Eduard Shevardnadze, that holds true promise for future
generations. Georgia has a culture that few have experienced. The goal of
our Foundation is to share that experience with the people of the United
States and elsewhere throughout the world.
I have been asked to make these initial inquiries by President Shevardnadze
and the Georgian Organizing Committee for a variety of reasons.
First, I have been closely involved in Georgian affairs for many years as a
scholar, US government official and now private citizen. Most of the
organizers are old friends and colleagues who trust me and my judgment.
Moreover, I am a long time colleague and friend to both Ambassadors
Morningstar and Courtney with whom I have extensively discussed the
01/08/1998 07:50 3016565703
PAGE 04
importance of these events for Georgia as well as the whole region of the
Caucasus.
Second, our Foundation is producing a Georgian National Exhibition, Five
Thousand Years of Georgian Culture and Tradition, which will tour the US
in 1999-2000. An integral part of this exhibition will be a section devoted to
the 2600th anniversary of Georgian Jewry. Prior to bringing this exhibition to
the United States, the section of Georgian Jewry will be displayed in Tbilisi as
part of the September commemorative events and later shown separately
here in Washington at the National Jewish Museum.
Finally, those of us who have been exposed to Georgian culture have
developed a strong affinity for the land and the people -- we are drawn to help
out in any way we can. I have no doubt that after you visit Georgia, you will
understand exactly what I mean.
Let me close by saying that I also serve as the Vice-Chairman of the
American-Russian Youth Orchestra which has greatly valued your role as
Honorary Chairperson along with Mrs. Yeltsin. I have been involved with
this orchestra throughout its ten-year history and especially value the support
your own Chief of Staff has provided.
I look forward to discussing this possible venture with you at your
convenience. I recognize how busy you must be and if I don't hear from you
will follow up later in the month.
Sincerely,
Gregory Guroff

URGENT, Please / Privately for The President and Hillary. Thank You.
The Honorable William J. Clinton
The State of The Union Address
The President of The United States of America
The Honorable Hillary Rodham Clinton, The First Lady
The White House, Washington, D.C. 20500
Dear President and Mrs. Clinton:
I trust that you are both doing great today. What is the real state of our Union today?
When President Abraham Lincoln addressed Americans at Gettysburg's fallen dead he spoke so much,
so quickly, that the photographer didn't even have time to get his picture.
Yet, it has taken us since 1863 to be more fully and deeply comprehending what Mr. Lincoln truly meant. Why so?
President Lincoln's "focused marker" was laid down. Mr. Lincoln was "definite." And not "perfect."
When General George Catlett Marshall spoke The Marshall Plan into existence in June, 1947 his was such a short
speech, such a generalized message, that only a very few persons picked up on his possible implications.
But Marshall's "Focusing Marker" was laid down. He was "definite." And,
Miller Williams' poetry did lay down an admonition or
two
dealing
with,
"How
do
we
get
to
the
21st
Century?"
I've said a word or two for "What to do, and Why to do certain things to help make secure and certain that
We Americans can have a great and good 21st Century. Markers, indicators, clear/definite trumpet calls one might say.
My Friend, Why? We Baptists are instructed that "Now is The Time for Salvation." The Good Book does nothing if it
does not deal with life, time, choices, their natures, and the supreme decisiveness of the timeliness of our choice
if our given choice is to have a chance to produce and reach its best productiveness. And Good Result.
As Chief Seattle said, "Today is a Good Day to Live. Or to die." Today is Your Day to be speaking Your Great and Good
Choices for A Secure and Safe USA into existence. Do you truly have four more years? NO. The Bible says, "No one has the
promise of tomorrow." My Friend, You have only today, NOW. NOW is the same UNAVOIDABLE CRISIS that President Lincoln,
that FDR, that TR, that George Washington, that JFK each one and all Faced. NOW is The Only Time there is.
Ergo, just say, "As your President, I have concluded that America must NOW Reach Out
and start helping cross-educate more and more of our Friends' and Partners' Young
Stuents with more and more Young Americans from every community in The USA for the
Improving and Greater Well-Being of All. I do need and request every Parent's Help,
every Governor's Help, every Teacher's Help and every Member of Congress' Help.
Especially do I request every Student's and every Teacher's Help and Support.
Ergo, say this, "As your President, I have concluded that America must
NOW reach out--helping build a safe/democratized Russia, Siberia and Newly Independent States.
Therefore, when I next meet with President Yeltsin, he and I are going to
launch Our New Strategic USA-RUSSIAN Partnership. We shall need every American's
and every Russian's Help, every Governor's Help, every Member of The Congress'
Help. Plus, Vice President Gore's, Secretary Albright's, Secretary Cohen's,
Secretary Rubin's Help and the Help of Each American and of many,
many others. This is very long-ranged and for the duration. There are
very, very Great and New Opportunities and Challenges involved. Would you, or any
American have us lose them? No. As your President, I do not intend to lose
these Great Benefits. So help me and your country. Thank you very much.
Now, much has been said about Moral Leadership. And correctly 50. Therefore,
I Say You, "As your President, I have concluded that America NOW must
reach out and help establish God's Real Peace in The Middle East.
And, it is NOW possible to do this, and in such a way as for us to
truly petition God
For our letting God to be Truly God

Their Lives and Promise. Therefore, I am launching The Western Hemisphere Strategic
Good Neighbor Development Program. Our Western Hemisphere is to become Second-to-None,
"I am going to need every American's and all our Friends' and Neighbors' Help,
every Governor's Help, every Member of Congress' Help. Plus, Vice President Gore's,
Secretary Albright's, Secretary Cohen's, Ambassador McLarty's, Secretary Rubin's
Help and the Help of many, many others. This is very long-ranged for the duration.
There are very, very Great and New Opportunities and Challenges involved in
The Western Hemisphere Strategic Good Neighbor Development Program. I ask for your help.
"All of these are in addition to Our USA's concerns of the past 4 to 12 years. We are moving up.
"You may wonder, "What's all this going to cost?" This is a good question. But such "concerns" often serves
as
a shield as a convenient hiding place/excuse for cop-outs. The USA cannot afford any more cop-outs.
So let me answer you straight to the point: The Great Works to secure The USA's and Our Friends' and Neighbors'
Real 21st Century will cost Trillions and Trillions of Dollars! They Produce Zillions of Dollars! But I hasten to
inform you that if we Do Not NOW Make These Vital and Most Necessary Investments of Our Lives, Our Fortunes, Our New
Opportunities to Build and to Secure Our Most Vital SECURITIES AND PROSPERITIES our present Total Indebtedness of
some $20.0 trillions will be exceeded by our losses amounting to $1,000.0 to $2,000.0+ trillions over the next 50 years.
"Today, NOW, is a Good Day to Live. Today, NOW, is a Great Day to Speak New Horizons and New Opportunities into existence
for The USA and The World of Our Young People--The Inheritors of The 21st Century and more starting NOW.
"May God Bless America. May God Bless Our Whole Wide World and All Its People. And May God
Bless each and every one of you. Please pray for me and for our county. Thank You Very Much."
Please call me personally if I may help you with any thing: You must know that I'll try. Thank you very much.

Your humble servant,
Bernard Goss IHS of Austin, Texas
The State of The Union Address to The USA and The World-- January 27th, 1998
OF
The President, The Honourable William Jefferson Clinton
Distinguished Persons, Guests, My Fellow Americans and Citizens,
I thank God All Mighty for This Day, For You, For The United States of America, and
For All Our Friends, Neighbors, Partners throughout the World. May God Bless Each One of
You and May He Bless All of Us, most richly.
I sincerely thank each of you for Your Votes, Your Expressions and Works of Support.
And I most sincerely appreciate and thank you for your continuing Strong Thoughts and Prayers.
We have had enough of Political Correctness. We have had enough of Gotcha. We must
have unity and solid, long, hard work to rebuild our Nation and World. We must totally
upgrade all Our Agendas and Concerns. We have lived in the sewers long enough.
I pray to All Mighty Bod that each of you will now powerfully arise, with no, far
Far Above the miasmas of wall-to-wall talking heads and partisan politics and all these
fatally-dangerous vices and the petty distractions of our days in the past four years.
Can we now agree on this? Enough is enough. Let's Go To Work Now! Thank you.
We Americans now have The Potentials The Opportunities and The Solemn, Highest
Responsibilities and Obligations to Lead Strongly, to Create and Build a Brand New USA and World with the Fullest,
Sustained Help of All Our Friends and Partners and of All of You within the sound of my voice.
We Americans now have The Greatest, and The Best, New Works to Launch and to Build
in behalf of ourselves and of All Human Kind. We are truly in this wonderful thing called
Life
TOGETHER. And Forever. We have All been asked To Help One Another, To Love One Another,
To Do Right by One Another, and To Do By Others as we would like to also be treated. Let's start Doing This.
And these things we must do with and for one another if any one hopes
to
do
well.
Indeed.
I Hope and Pray that we Americans truly do all want to do well and increasingly better. MUCH BETTER.
Then, we had better start working together in unity. Gung Ho
means "Working Together."
By So Doing, We, of this Great and Divinely-Ordained Republic, shall keep our Rendezvous with Destiny--God Helping Us.
Therefore, We Americans are Now, Most Swiftly leaving this bloody-awful 20th Century with its Wars, its Blood Baths,
its Holocausts, Destructions, Depressions, its Dangers, its Deaths far, far behind. God Wants Better For Us.
Therefore, Trusting God, We Americans are Seizing This Day and All of Our Tomorrows, starting now, My Friends.
The Poet has said, "Dream no small dreams
for they have No Fires, nor Excitements, to Engage,
to Thrill, and To Lift The Spirits, Hearts, Minds, Hopes, Energies of Good Women and
Men, and Their Youth and Children

Here is what I and Vice President Gore propose to do, NOW, and with your Fullest Help, and with

IV. Our New International Economic Development and Growth Programs for All The Americas.
The 21st Century requires that All The AMERICAS become Second-to-None in the Decisively-
Important Matters of Educations (especially the young girls), Health, and Heavy
Infrastructural Investments and Works in Communications, Transportation, New Lands and
Water Resources Development, Agricultural and Industrial Skills and Capital
Capabilities, Productivities, Skills and Profitabilities.
At the same time we must start acquiring and conserving vast New, Living, Ecological
and Environmental Systems, which are increasingly at the total risks of descrations and
destructions through short-sighted, unscientific, exploitations, greeds, ignorances.
Our Human Race cannot continue risking the wasting and destroying our basic and
irreplacable sources of Oxygen, Water, Solitude, Biological Diversities, Re-Creation.
We have sufficient evidence and knowledge to know what not to continuing doing, as
well as some of the things we must start doing. With Vice President Gore's
Splendid Leadership My last few years shall move to accomplish these objectives. And,
V. Our Programs for Streamlining and Reforming Our U.S. Governmental Operations' Efficiences shall continue unabated.
We must retrieve and save scarce resources of Lives/Skills/Monies for Real Investment.
Therefore, my last few years shall move to initiate, implement, and accomplish these programs/objectives above.
We must work together as Strong American Citizens and indeed as Patriots. This Time is Unique, Precious,
and now requires each American's Best Character and Unstinting Dedication and Hard Works
to make it Truly Well-Invested and Most Productive.
I point out that there is a vast difference between Consumption and all our efforts to improve
consumption And these New, Real, and Vast Strategic Investments now Required to
produce These New Opportunities Above for Our New Jobs, Our Vast Flows of New, World-Class
Educations, Human Resources and Skills, New Markets, AND New Incomes.
The thorough rationalization and modernization of The USA and Russia
and Siberia in the wake and aftermath of The Cold War will indeed take
us up across our next 20 to 35 years--two to three generations of very large,
effective, hard, and effective works, sacrifice, dedication and investments.
Such New Requirements and Opportunities means we must transform Government
as we have known it. We've got to do much, much more...with less.
The Vice President's "Re-Inventing Government" Efforts are Urgent and Critically Important.
Our unfunded mandates--Social Security, Medicare, etc., must be renovated and made good. And Better.
You will note that We ARE Taking Large, Tough, Positive Actions Now to
Guarantee that The USA increasingly has The New Productive Strengths and
Resources to Win, and to Win--Going Away and Most Powerfully in
The 21st Century+. Please join me in Asking God to Bless Us and All
Our Citizens and Global Partners... in The Great New, Peaceful Works.
Thank You--One and All for Your Prayers and Support. God Bless Each One of You. And God Bless The
United States of America and All Our World...with His Best/Richest Blessings. Amen? AMEN.

In Re: Rodman on Gaddis' "The Cold War: Now We Don't Know?" OR, "How Much Do We Don't Know?"
For The Record: Nancy and Ronald Reagan and Raisa and Michael Gorbachev popped the envelop and destroyed our
40+ years long enthrallment with Hot and Cold Wars at Geneva, Switzerland in November, 1985 when
President Reagan offered General Secretary Gorbachev the possibility "for 5 to 10 more Summits,
carefully and conscientiously prepared, scheuled and performed, to see if we could not together.. and safely
and correctly walk away from The Cold War." Their agreement-to-agree killed The Cold War suddenly/decisively! PERIOD.
Later, in Lou Cannon's book, President Reagan said, "...this was my best work." TRUE.
Their wives, truly Two Great Ladies and Most Caring, Correct Mothers, simultaneously were directly and continuously
working for The USA-USSR Partner High Schools which subsequently and Providentially turned out to strongly
provide the parallel, verifiable and workable track on which these two Great Ladies helped to pull the
INF negotiators up and through some 15 consecutive "melt downs and paranoias on the missile track" thereby
getting us a strong and successful INF Treaty-The First and Only Treaty which has yet taken down the
nuclear equivalent destructive powers of some 1,800 million tons of TNT, which is equivalent to 600 World War IIs. PERIOD.
Could and did Nancy and Ronald Reagan and The Gorbachevs Lead, Think, and Act "outside the envelop"? YES. INDEED.
Did any reporter, or historian, get these Truths identified, verified, and accurately reported? NOT YET.
Although Dan Rather was alert enough at the time to report that The First Ladies "had agreed to do some Sister Schools."
Next, It is one thing to get the Truth identified, verified, and accurately reported: It is quite another
thing "to correctly draw and apply The Lessons of The Truth," effectively and in timely ways, for real interests."
To wit: How did we get into The Cold War to begin with? Were there any other options? What were they?
And what do these imply Now for The USA and Americans, and others, for the coming 75 to 100 years?
First, after WW I, 1918 1936, it seems we worked long and hard to guarantee that we would have another major war.
I refer to The Weimar Republic, the melting down of Germany to pay war reparations, the resulting hyperinflations, Hitler,
The Great Stock Market Crash of 1929, The Great Depression of The 1930's, Adolph Hitler's NAZIS Holocausts, etc.
We got our WW II in SPADES! Fortunately, Mr. Winston Churchill and Mr. Franklin Delano Roosevelt turned out
to be "pretty good poker players." But they took some most serious licks and losses. Shortly after Hitler's attack
on Great Britian, FDR sent his top aide, Harry Hopkins, to see Churchill to see how The USA could help. Later on,
within 10 days of Hitler's massive June 21, 1941 attack on The USSR, Hopkins was in Moscow to help Joe Stalin. Hopkins
hurried back in time to accompany Mr. Churchill on The Prince of Wales to Argentia Bay, Newfoundland to meet FDR in August, 1941.
Next, FDR had 3 Vice Presidents, the last was Harry S Truman, an ex-US Senator from Missouri. None of FDR's VPs
were "in the loop." This was of critical importance for HST when FDR died suddenly at Warm Springs, Georgia on
April 12, 1945. This was only 26 days before a destroyed NAZI Germany surrendered. Japan fought on, most fiercely,
until August 14, 1945. During this same time Harry Hopkins was dying with stomach cancer: passing in July, 1945.
Talk about HST's lack of knowledge, continuity, and the absence of all the rest of the necessary ingredients for success!
The USA had just lost our top two Russian Experts just as we were winning and having to bring in a
green, out-of-the-loop, New President and team-as the War was accelerating to Climatic Velocities with "No Time Outs."
(This is highly similar to the loss of President Lincoln just a few days after our Civil War was won in 1865.)
Plus, we Americans were war weary and tired. And uncertain, timid. But, we had not been bombed, shelled, burned out,
raped, murdered, devastated, starved...with vast numbers killed and wounded: We were in a daze, soundly
sleepwalking, not truly able to, nor capable of appreciating just how lucky we had been.
1/2
We brought our troops home in large part, stood down, rapidly demobilizing. But for the better part of two more
years the war-ravaged areas of Europe, Russia, Asia. continued starving to death, freezing, limping barely back to life.
America alone had THE BOMB...see Hiroshima, Nagasaki! But "success" is the supreme gut check of our character and courage.
We did not do all that well with our "Victory." (I know this is Monday Morning quarterbacking. but there is at least
One Big Lesson for us today for The Here and Now, and for Our Tomorrows, if we can grasp it and choose and do well now.)
It is this: We rebuilt our mortal enemies-The Germans, The Italians, The Japanese. And our European and Pacific Allies.
But we Americans did nothing to help "the ungodly communist russians." Why not? George Kennan alledgedly said that
"these (The Russians) are not people who are good enough for us to associate with." Yet others-equally competent American writers and
observers-in Russia at the same time said no such thing. What are the real facts, the deep significant truths?
If I am your partner/comrade in a mortal fight against Absolute Evil Terrors/NAZIS, and I kill and destroy 85 percent
of All These NAZIS' War-Making Men and Armed Capabilities what considerations do you Americans (as worthy persons) owe me?
You have lost 415,000 of your sons killed: I, "the ungodly communist russian," have lost 20,000,000 to
25,000,000 of my sons, daughters and folks Killed. And my country's most built up parts-the size of The USA east of the
Mississippi River has been blasted and burned to ashes. Does this make us "a people who ARE NOT good enough for you to associate with?"
How "good" do I have to become for you to wake up to your real obligations and debts to me for my vast sacrifices to you?
Your so-called historians and policy counselors need to learn The Truth and communicate it accordingly-next, blood.
And accordingly, your Leaders need to Do Right by The Truth, The Whole Truth. This is never easy to DO.
But it is the only Right Thing to do. AND IT MAY BECOME THE EASIEST THING FOR YOU TO DO AFTER ALL.
You lost 415,000 of your sons killed? If I, "the ungodly communist russian," had not blasted, ripped, stomped, hammered
and slammed The LIVES out of 85 percent of All Adolph Hitler's KILLERS, do you know how many more of your Sons would
have then PERISHED at the hands of these living NAZIs?! How about 3,000,000 to 5,000,000 more Gold Stars and graves
for you and your American countrymen and mothers? But, by The Grace of God, your men and boys were spared ALIVE by us Russians.
Yet, in 1947, at the time The Marshall Plan was finally being put together, you willfully defaulted on me in my Deaths, Devastations,
pains, sorrows, by then conspiring to make it impossible for me to be included in The Plan. I, the ungodly communist russian, who
had kept you from losing The War was conveniently defaulted on in my Deaths, Destructions, Pains, Sorrows By You.
You should have lived and died some real history on June 6th, 1944 in Normandy and then tried to have imagine what a
90 percent intact NAZI GERMAN ARMY would have been able to do to you. You lost 5,000 men killed that day? What's your Big Deal?
We Russian "unworthies" lost 20,000 soldiers DEAD each day for the whole month of June, 1944-A "Quiet, Low DEATHs" month for us.
Oh, and if you had correctly risked helping me, what do you think might have happened? Do you seriously think and
believe that Russians, dominated by a few Communists, but being exposed to and truly helped by free and democratic Americans and
capitalism would have been able not to be transformed constructively? Stalin and the communists would not have lasted
until 1953: It would have all been over for The Communist USSR by 1950. But we all got a Great, Big, Dangerous,
Self-Inflicted, COLD WAR for the next 40 to 60 years. What a Deal! A LOSS=LOSS. Shades of The Garden. Thanks to your
blood defaults. What was 50 "cold" about Korea?, Vietnam? and the deep mal-direction of 3 generations of Americans?
Only a Ronald and Nancy Reagan could have exercised the honesty, character, and courage to have tried: They did
and The Cold War has safely ended. But since 1986, we have had neither the Wisdom nor Character to secure and to
start building a Correct, Real Peace...by at long last finally starting to redeem our real foolishness and defaults on
on The Russian People and Ourselves as Correct, God-Fearing, Americans. For Pity. For Shame.
Our Real Peace cannot be secured the way we are going: Our present utter foolishness shall too have their costly,
dangerous consequences. just as surely as night follows day just as certainly as death follows life. Good produces
Good. Bad produces only Bad. There can be no other outcome. Become Good.

Dear Ms. Verveer,
I am sending you, herewith, a catalogue of the exhibition "Crowning
Glory: Images of the Virgin in the Arts of Portugal" currently at the Newark
Museum. This exhibition was planned with Mary Sue Price, the Director of the
Museum, as part of the World Festival dedicated to Portugal and the Portuguese
speaking countries on the occasion of the opening of the New Jersey Performing
Arts Center. The exhibition had a very warm reception from public and critics
alike.
Through the catalogue you can assert the double purpose of the
exhibition: to cover eight centuries of Portuguese Art through a recurrent subject
and to give the vision of a multicultural fusion of art and religion. I hope you may
read this catalogue as an invitation to visit the exhibition that closes on February
18th.

Subject: Can You Help us with Vice-President Gore?
Melanne,
The Kentucky Author Forum has just submitted a proposal to Vice-President Gore to
participate in the Kentucky Author Forum at the end of May with special reference to his
book on Cyberspace et.al.
The proposal was directed (I think at the suggestion of someone in Marsha Berry's office)
to a Mr. Lawrence Haas.
Two questions:
a. Is the proposal with the correct person or can you suggest that it be sent to someone
else as well?
b. Will you be kind enough to call that office (Mr. Haas) , or write a note, saying all
the nice things they need to hear?
Hopefully you can reassure that the atmosphere is extremely positive, the event
highly organized, university involved public radio, public television, connected to
public libraries! wonderful dinner with all the powers that be in Kentucky present
And certainly we will see that the Governor is with us for dinner if he is able, just as
he was for Mrs. Clinton.
Needless to say, this is a real opportunity for Mr. Gore to visit with a significant
part of the State of Kentucky.

Haas) or write a note, saying all
the nice things they need to hear?
Hopefully you can reassure that the atmosphere is extremely positive, the event
highly organized, university involved public radio, public television, connected to
public libraries! wonderful dinner with all the powers that be in Kentucky present
And certainly we will see that the Governor is with us for dinner if he is able, just as
he was for Mrs. Clinton.
Needless to say, this is a real opportunity for Mr. Gore to visit with a significant
part of the State of Kentucky.

Dear Ms. Verveer:
Thank you very much for your kind letter of March 4. My co-
authors in the book American First Ladies were very eager for Mrs.
Clinton to have a copy of the volume, and we are delighted to know
that you have it. I hope that it will be useful to you and the
First Lady as you carry on your duties in the White House.
You mentioned some reprints of Mrs. Clinton's speeches, but
they were not enclosed with your letter. If it is still possible to
receive them, I would very much like to do so. I hope that a second
edition of the book will be done in a few years and I will be
extending the essay on Mrs. Clinton at that time. So copies of her
speeches will be very helpful to me in that endeavor. Purely as an
aside, I will say that a published collection of Mrs. Clinton's
speeches as First Lady would be a valuable source for a better
historical understanding of her contributions to this important
American institution.
With renewed thanks and all best wishes,
Sincerely,

Dear Ms. Verveer,
On behalf of the membership and the Executive Board of Women in
Endocrinology, I would like to invite First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton to address the
annual Women in Endocrinology meeting at the 79th Annual Meeting of The Endocrine
Society on Tuesday, June 23, 1998 at 6 pm in New Orleans.
Women in Endocrinology is comprised of biomedical research scientists and
physicians who represent women members of The Endocrine Society. The goal of our
organization is to foster the professional development and success of women in the field of
endocrinology and to advocate for issues which are important to our careers, to
endocrinology, and to science and health in the United States.
We expect about 300-400 of our members to attend; about half will be M.D.s and
the other half will be Ph.D.s. Because we represent the interests of both basic scientists and
clinicians, our organization is unique in the biomedical community.
The First Lady is truly a heroine to our members, one who has taken a strong stand
on the most important issues of the nation, those issues that most affect women and
children. This meeting would be an excellent opportunity for the First Lady to discuss her
vision of what the future will bring for women in America.
Our members strongly appreciate The First Lady's work on behalf of women,
children, and health in America. We would be deeply honored to hear from her, and your
consideration of this invitation is warmly appreciated.
If you need any further information, please call me during the day at my office at
(973) 972-5516. I was directed to your office by John Funderbuck, at the U.S. Department
of Education. Thank you so much for your attention to this request.
Sincerely,
