MEMORANDUM FOR: SEE BELOW
FROM
M. Brooke Darby
(DARBY)
SUBJECT:
Tasker for Global Town Hall Meeting
April 26, 1994
MEMORANDUM FOR STAFF
FROM:
NANCY SODERBERG
SUBJECT:
Tasker for the President's CNN Town Hall Meeting
on Tuesday
On Tuesday, the President will be travelling to Atlanta to
participate in a CNN Global Town Hall Meeting on foreign policy
issues. In addition to the audience of foreign journalists in
Atlanta, the program will feature live satellite hook ups with
journalists in several world hot spots: Sarajevo, Seoul,
Johannesburg and Jerusalem. Mexican journalists will be
in
Atlanta.
Please provide to the NSC Press Office NO LATER THAN NOON ON
THURSDAY specific talking points/Qs and As (with background as
appropriate) particularly on issues of interest in the countries
participating in the meeting, but also on other topics that the
President is likely to be asked about. We want the papers to be
more than the daily guidance points. They should have facts,
anecdotes -- points the President can weave into his discussions
to demonstrate the human side of events. Examples could include
stories of courage in South Africa or Bosnia, an individual's
rescue in Rwanda, acts of bravery by J.S. troops, etc.
Attached is an example of a talking point that Tony Lake likes
which you can use as is model. In drafting the points, keep in
mind whether you are using words the President would actually
use.
In addition, please provide short key points to make for key
issues.
Tara Sonenshine will be getting back to each office with further
guidance later today.
