Phil, I would very much like to add my intern David Meyers
to the White House staff if there is any possible way to
to 80 to 80
accomplish this without disturbing the 25% pledge.

David, has worked with us since the end of January and
without his commitment and willingness to work long, tiring days
for weeks on end, Janice would have never managed. During the
toubin's staff
weeks of trying to negotiate an arrangement for Ann Cahill, David
provided every possible service the office needed. He has
demonstrated his ability, professional manner and clear
understanding of the discretion required to work in this
environment. I have every confidence in him.
In August he will begin law school at American University in
the evenings. He has worked the entire time without compensation
and has explained to Janice and me that he must now attempt to
find a position that will pay him a modest salary.
Since Debbie Bird has joined the staff here, things are
running much more efficiently but David's contribution continues
to be vital. Inasmuch as we share Debbie with Staff Secretary,
there are times which David is on his own and must manage on his
own covering phones, paper flow and processing all of the
outgoing documents. Of course, he also continues to answer
phones for the Chief of Staff's office in general.
Any thoughts you might have on how to achieve this goal and
get David put on the staff payroll, I would be interested in
discussing.
