Memorandum for Interested Parties: From: Ann Castagnetti Subject: Summary of 8:45am Meeting The 8:45am meeting will be held to discuss & coordinate short term press & political strategy. I will contact all of your offices regarding the room we will be meeting in every morning. We hope to limit the meeting to 15 minutes each morning. Below is a summary of today's meeting: Dan 1. Overnight news and the need to respond will be discussed each morning. Mark Gearan will decided how to handle this. 2. Ginny Terzano and Jim Whitney will be drawing up talking points and Q & A in response to the elections being held today. These will be reviewed at 5:30pm today in Alexis Herman's office. We will need to finalize this information after the results are in and send talking points to Leon Panetta, Tony Coelho, David Wilhelm, Stan Greenberg etc. prior to am media appearances. 3. A meeting with political reporters has been tentatively set for Friday. Harold Ickes, Joan Baggett, David Wilhelm and Tony Coelho will brief reporters on our strategy for November. Mark Gearan and Ginny Terzano to coordinate press invited. 4. A "dry run" of this meeting will be held Thursday afternoon. Ann Castagnetti to set time. 5. Joan Baggett is updating a candidate targeting list by Wednesday. 6. Mandy Grunwald is working on the generic media. 7. Mark Gearan will handle the "casting " of individuals inside and outside the Administration who will be carrying the message for the next 57 days. 8. David Dreyer, Stan Greenberg and Don Baer are working on a more digestible version of the message for candidates and the Cabinet for speeches and media appearances. 9. A meeting will be held with Cabinet Affairs tomorrow to discuss one-on-one meetings with the Cabinet to discuss travel and candidate priorities. 10. Next Wednesday, September 21st, will begin the end of the primary season and the "lift off" of the campaign season. Joan Baggett will organize a press conference with the DGA/DCCC/DSCC and Don Baer will try out the President's message on the November elections in the DSCC speech on the same evening. 11. Newt Gingrich is holding a press conference today to lay out the plan for the September 27th event with Republican candidates. Rahm Emanuel will follow-up.
