REAFFIRMATION OF EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY POLICY
I am committed to ensuring equal employment opportunity for all VA
employees. Equally as important, I am committed to a Department that is
free of discrimination and which reflects the diversity of this nation.
This statement reaffirms the policy of VA prohibiting unlawful
discrimination and sexual harassment. VA does not condone nor tolerate
discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex (including sexual
harassment), religion, age (over 40), disability or sexual orientation, in any of
its personnel policies, practices, and operations.
All VA managers and employees have a responsibility to uphold this
policy. Each of us must be personally accountable for his or her performance
in ensuring and promoting equal opportunity principles and in recognizing
diversity as a source of strength for VA. Moreover. managers and employees
alike must work together to ensure a workplace free of discrimination and
sexual harassment.
It is essential that we recognize that diversity of cultures and life styles
exists among employees, as it does in our veteran population. Consequently, it
is important that all VA employees work together to create an environment of
understanding and respect in order to enhance our collective and individual
efforts to serve veterans and their families. I ask that all VA managers and
employees support this policy in a positive manner. That means zero tolerance
for discrimination or harassment in any form.
