Source Description
Device of the Società tipografica bolognese on title page (female allegory of Bologna). The 2nd emblem is Bocchi's portrait (A3v). Mortimer notes that Giulio Bonasone's engravings after Prospero Fontana and Parmigianino are repeated from the 1st edition of 1555 except for number 36 which is a copy. Agostino Carracci may have engraved number 1, which in the 1555 edition is a woodcut; he retouched the others, the occurrence of first and second states varying from copy to copy; Signatures: [dagger]4, b-f4, A-Yy4 (Yy4 blank); Includes index; Notes on the work by previous owner in mss throughout; Prof. Held's notes and photograph of p.LXIII removed and placed in envelope; Quarterbound in leather, marbled paper over boards; Mortimer, R. Italian 16th cent., 77; Landwehr, J. French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese emblem books, 163
