Source Description
Leather bound account book with the first 16 pages being the 1758 almanac by Nathaniel Ames. Diary contains a narrative of the expedition against Ticonderoga during the French and Indian War. The diary begins on page 96 with May 2nd 1758, proceeds to May 26th on page 99 then jumps back to the first page following the almanac and continues to November 7, 1758 on page 95. The account book entries, 1759-1771, concern timber and planks for scooners, etc. (shipwright?) as well as accounts of goods purchased by Sweat including rum, vinegar, sugar, corn, salt, etc. William Sweat was born on 3 April 1730 in Newbury, Massachusetts. He was a soldier in the French and Indian War and a Lieut. in the Revolutionary War. He died on 9 December 1808 in Salisbury, Massachusetts.
