Source Description

Vellum bound account book with ""Thomas Bostock His Book bound in Boston August the 26d 1712"". Unfortunately, any pages used by him were removed, in fact, only 18 pages remain. On the paste down for the back cover is ""The reason why I took the pains to record the things relating to the church was that when I desired to have the church book in my custody, it was denyed me att the church meeting"". There is also a list of ""The names of members belonging to the old church in Swansea"". List of baptisms, 1733-1743. Copies of letters, addresses and records of church meetings, 1667, 1722-1755. Samuel Maxwell was born 30 Sept 1688 in Boston, Massachusetts. He was minister of the 1st Church in Swansea, Mass. from 1733-1739. Although he became a Seventh Day Baptist, he later retracted and became a Congregational minister. He was minister of the 1st Church in Rehoboth, Mass., from 1745-1749 and Block Island, Rhode Island, from 1750-1758. He died 5 May 1778 in Rehoboth, Massachusetts.
