Letter from Catharine A.F. Stebbins, Ann Arbor, [Michigan], to William Lloyd Garrison, [18]60 Nov[ember] 22d
Catherine A.F. Stebbins writes to William Lloyd Garrison repeating a request from "the students of Ann Arbor" to lecture before them, as they received no reply and "fear their letter may not have reached you". Stebbins discusses the "Student's Association", naming its president as "McGovern", and reports that the "professors here, all save one, sail with the popular current; the exception is A.D. White ... a friend of Saml. J. May's." She also mentions that Parker Pillsbury lectured there the year before, and a lecture by Grace Greenwood "drew such an audience that they paid their debts & had a surplus of $70", angering some "for the question of admitting woman to the benefits of the college has been discussed". In the postscript, Stebbins asks "where to find a sketch of Benjamin Lundy's life & early labors in connection with the Genius of Universal Emancipation?"
