Source Description
Samuel Wolcott writes to Amos A. Phelps regarding matters relating to Mr. Paxton's case. He writes, "In regard to Paxton, I could only state impressions, & was unwilling to be called upon as a witness, with a liability to be contradicted by direct testimony. My opinion was & is, that the statement of facts which I knew, which I sent you for publication, was the best thing in his favor which I could possibly have written. But all this belongs to ancient history." He encloses a copy of his and Mr. Warren's letter.
