Source Description
In this letter to William Lloyd Garrison, Joseph Mitford welcomes Garrison to England and recalls that they met the previous summer when Mitford visited Boston with his daughter. They were introduced at that time to Garrison through William Bassett who also introduced them to Lydia Maria Child and the home of Maria Weston Chapman. Mitford invites Garrison to meet him in Southampton where he "shall be highly gratified to receive thee and to return, if thou will allow me, a little of that kind consideration of which in America I received so much from thine and from other hands." He also proposes meeting Garrison in London during the World Anti-Slavery Convention, if he has any available time. In the postscript, Mitford adds that he lives "at Millbrook 3 1/2 miles on the Poole Road from Southampton."
