Letter from P. Tredwell, Port Plate, [Santo Domingo], to Maria Weston Chapman, 1841 May 17
P. Tredwell writes to Maria Weston Chapman and Henry Grafton Chapman regarding the idea that through her agency [Santo Domingo at the time was unified with Haiti], Haiti will soon "become a powerful coadjutor with the Anti-Slavery Society of the U.S.A." He suggests the printing of a pamphlet in the french language, addressed to Haitiens, setting forth "the effect which slavery still has upon Haiti" and inviting the government to participate in the anti-slavery labours.
