Source Description
Francis Jackson writes to Samuel May describing his attempt to persuade Crowninshield "to give us a special train as formerly" to take attendants to the 4th of July celebrations in Abington. He tells May of his discussion with William Lloyd Garrison about arrangements for the Fourth and asks May to invite a number of individuals, including Wendell Phillips, Caleb Stetson, Charles Lenox Remond, and James Russell Lowell. He urges May to, "Invite whom you think proper especially the clergymen in that region whom you think would speak." Jackson also suggests that May write to Bourne Spooner and ask him to try to obtain the special fares from the railroad as he "may have more influence." He then advises May to write to Ginery Twichell about railorad fares for the 1st of August celebrations "& ask him to accomodate us on the same terms he did last year."
