Letter from J. Lamborn, Covington, Iowa, to William Lloyd Garrison, Aug[ust] 14, [18]54
J. Lamborn writes William Lloyd Garrison informing him that the "panorama" of "Uncle Tom's Cabin" which was set to work by a "young Anti-Slavery" man, which Lamborn mentioned to Garrison in a previous letter, has been completed for some six months. Lamborn reports that it is a "very fine production", and took its creator (a "Mr. Hays") some sixteen months to finish the work. Lamborn speaks of the financial difficulties the anti-slavery forces in Iowa encounter as they are obliged to travel from "point to point" to reach the "regions where a reasonable show of Anti-Slavery exists", and states that they are finding it "impossible to get people out so as to sustain ourselves". Lamborn closes in forwarding $2 to Garrison for payment for the Liberator, and includes a copy of the speech delivered at Elgin (Illinois) concerning My Hays' panorama.
