William Lloyd Garrison is staying with Andrew Paton and his sister. Garrison is fatigued from the ride from London, sleeplessness, the sudden cold, and the drenching rain. He remarks on the bad management of the railways. Garrison asks Henry Clarke Wright to come to a meeting in Glasgow next week. Garrison's schedule includes meetings in Paisley, Greenock, Edinburgh, and Dundee. Their passage home has been reserved; Garrison hopes Wright will sail with him and argues that he is under a public pledge to bring Wright back with him. Garrison has seen advance sheets of Wright's forthcoming work on peace and makes favorable comments. William Smeal has visited Garrison two or three times and is in fine spirits.
