William Lloyd Garrison writes about a stormy trip to New York on a Long Island Sound steamer. He was met by his son Wendell. William L. Garrison is going to Fort Sumter. He received a telegram from Secretary Edward M. Stanton that said "Capt." George T. Garrison received a furlough to go to Charleston. Samuel J. May says that Charlotte Coffin will return to Boston at the end of the month. Garrison saw his friend William H. Fish, who inquired about Helen Eliza Garrison's health. The American Anti-Slavery Society has finished its work. Garrison heard a rumor that General Lee surrendered.
