Letter from Samuel May, Boston, to Richard Davis Webb, October 21, 1857

May encloses a review of Hinton Rowan Helper's "The Impending Crisis of the South." He says that the Northern Disunion Convention was postponed on account of the financial panic, which he discusses at length. May reports that many people are blaming the New York City banks for the panic.
