Source Description
This manuscript, suspected to be written in the hand of Edward A. Phelps, the son of Amos A. Phelps, contains notes taken from the sermon preached at Orange Scott’s funeral. It states that Scot withdrew from the Methodist Episcopal Church because of the church’s dependency on slavery and its principles that were neither based on the scripture nor recognized by the primitive church.
