        "In 1904, Thomas Edison began a study of modern office requirements and he introduced the first design having a correction system, repetition for the dictator, and other details that made its adoption reasonable in business. In 1908, Edison introduced the universal electric motor. Prior to that time, there been no electric motor to operate a dictating machine satisfactorily on alternating currents. Edison's development of the electronic controls for executives and stenographers marked another important advance in electric inventions."
