Italian Peasants near Rome
Romako, a Viennese painter, settled in the village of Monte Mario, near Rome. In this view set in the Valle dell'Inferno, a deep ravine then overgrown with cork trees, he shows peasants praying. Visible in the background is the dome of St. Peter's.
