Source Description
Barye's drawing of a faun or satyr carrying an ox is based on a Roman relief sculpture. It may be a study for his statuette "Hercules and the Erymanthian Boar," (Walters 27.192). Also represented is Artemis, the Greek goddess of the hunt, drawing an arrow from her quiver, as well as a man's head seen in profile.
