Fuchi with Monkeys

Three monkeys are depicted in gold, copper and shakudo. One monkey is dressed in a shirt and holds a stick with sacred "shide" papers attached. Such sticks are used to symbolize purification in Shinto ritual. This fuchi is part of a set with Walters 51.917.
