Source Description

This triptych is virtually identical with Walters 44.375. Its three panels form a group called a "Deesis" ("prayer" or "entreaty"), in which Christ is flanked by the Virgin and John the Baptist, who intercede with him on behalf of humankind. On the front panel, visible when the triptych is folded, is a cross with the symbols of the evangelists.
