Document source description

This is one of a series of similar vases made between 1780 and 1784, each designated by a letter of the alphabet. The ground is dark blue ("beau bleu.") The handles are in the form of white and gold scrolls. A garland in relief is draped through them and fastens to the neck. On the body of the vase are two roughly oblong reserves (painted panels) bearing, on one side, a scene of the god Jupiter courting the nymph Callisto after a painting by François Boucher, and on the other, flowers, including roses and forget-me-nots.
