The legs stand apart, the right foot turns slightly outwards, and the torso is subtly tilted: all these elements suggest imminent movement and- rather than presenting a self-contained gracefulness- offer involvement. If in the left hand there was once a flask that has been broken above and below the fingers, the bodhisattva can be identified as Avalokitesvara. Otherwise, he is likely to be Maitreya.
