Source Description
The dagger (tanto) was designed primarily as a stabbing weapon, but the edge can be used for slashing as well. The dagger was carried by samurai, and sometimes worn in place of the short sword (wakizashi) in a daisho set, especially on the battlefield. This dagger is decorated with a line of blossoming cherry trees, an indication of the spring season, representing the ephemerality of life.
