My dear Miss Bacon:
Tie have received the report of your final physical examination
and it is now time for you to obtain your pessport and have your uniforms
ordered and made. Have a tailor measure you according to the enclosed
measurement blank that is enclosed with this letter. Return this promptly,
giving us your indoor uniform and hat size and also the address to which
you wish them sent. Sign and return to us promptly all receipts that
accompany each package of uniforms.
Please check when you receive your uniforms for - 6 white uniforms
with short sleeves, detachable belt and buttons, emblem on left sleeve
(American Red Cross - Nursing); street uniforas - Red Cross Pin on each
shoulder of short coat, two A.R.C. pins on the collar of short and top-
coat, emblem on left sleeve of each coat midway between shoubder and
elbow (American Red Cross - Harvard Unit) Clamp your bronzé A.R.C. pins
so that they do not become unhooked and lost. It is felt that nurses
living out of New York City or Boston will have to stay in New York
for about three days before Bailing in order to have their uniforms
fitted and finished, the expense to be reimbursed by the Red Cross.
We have decided to wear white shirt blouses with a black four-inphand
tie to be supplied by the nurse. Boys! shirts are very suitable, but a
blouse with a convertible oliar serves a double purpose - takes the tie
well and can be left open in summer. Three with long sleeves are required.
If have any with short sleeves, bring them along. If you have a
steamer you rug, you will rind it very sueful and it can be strapped to the
outside of your luggage. A good suggestion is to have some kind of purse and
or container that can be attached to your person to carry your money
passport.
inclosed you will find rules and regulations for obtaining passports.
You will note from these regulations that you should present yourself
before a clerk of your local U. s. listrict Court, unless an Agent of the
Department of State is located near you. You should take with you the
enclosed photographs and, in addition,
have picture taken, you should have 12 passport the
evidence you
letter of passport your of American appointment, citizenship, two and mply for a made, passport. 2 for also When
and the your remaining 10 for use in England. The fee or $10.00 and
cost of the trip to the port of embarkation will be reimbursed.
