-2 - can be released from the welfare staff. Mies Verda Hick cox is Director M of Staff Welfare at the Paris Headquarters and she has several nurses assisting her. I doubt very much if she is going to need any more help before the work there begins to déminish. I think under the circunstances unless something unforseen develops in the near future that it would be best for you to continue with your UNRRA assignment until that is terminated in a natural way by the con- clusion of the work and then keep us in mind here at home for possible fu- ture activity. We are looking forward very much to the return of many of our staff who are in one form of service or another and hope that they will wish to return to the Red Cross fold on coming back to civilian nursing again. Miss Coltharp is certainly having some interesting and I imagine trying experiences in Yugoslavia and is doing a grand job. You perhaps have heard that Miss Lona Trott has returned to the Midwestern Area as Director of Nursing Service, having just assumed that position very recently. She seemed very glad to get back to the area and is very impressed with the fine staff she has to do the big job before them. Thassume that you receive the American Journal of Nursing so that you are able to keep up with what is going on in the profession here at home. The American Nurses Association is struggling now with their counseling and placement service which they hope to make available to all civilian nurses as well as nurse veterans. It is a grand plan if they can get the money and personnel to develop it. I do hope that you will write to us again and keep us in- formed of your activities. With all' best wishes to you, I am Sincerely yours, Gertrude s. Banfield, Director, Nursing Enrollment. GSBshsr 2
