Mrs. Elsbeth Vaughan,
Aset. Director, äursing Service,
St. louie Pranch, American Red Crose,
1709 Washington Avenue,
St. Louis,No.
My dear Mre. Vaughan:
Your lettere regarding Nies Hay have
been received. At the sametime Nies Hay wrote to you, ebe
sent us a copy of her letter, and while ehe urged other
arrangements, it does not appear by her letter that the
illness iss permanent in ite character.
MI have written to Dr. Irons, in
accordance with your suggestion. We feel greatly encouraged
by Mies Mc=illan'e telegram. After full coneideration of the
correspondence, both Mre. Baker and I feel that me should hold
the whole matter in abeyance until we are definitely assured
that the character of Mies Hay'e illness would be such as to
prevent her from assuming work with us.
We shall be glad to receive the report
of the disaster, and in the meantime let me say how grateful
1 an to you and to Mies Chapman for the fine work that you
have done, and also to the Committees thst responded so
promptly to the call for help. If you have any photographs
of either the nurses, themselves, or of the work thet they are
doing, we shall be very glad to receive them.
Sincerely yours,
National Director, Nursing Service.
