S Presbyterian Hospital, Chicago, Ill. April 25 1925 + A. R. C. MAIL ROOM RECEIVED Miss Clara D. Noyes, Director Nursing Service A.R.C. APR 25 1989 Washington, D. C. Referred to mayes Dear Miss Noyes, It is two weeks and more since I wrote you. Meantime you have had Dr. Irons' letter, I understand, and may already have taken action in regard to the vacancy at St. Louis. Since then, however, I have become convinced that I should tender my resignation. It grieves me sorely to do this, not only because the post and the renewed associations with Red Cross were so attractive, but be- cause it admits a physical inability that is discouraging. It is true that I may even exceed the doctors' favorable prognosis and be ready for a job sooner than I now think, but in justice to the work of the St. Louis Branch, as well as to Mrs. Vaughan and to related activities, I be- lieve this resignation is the fair thing. It may be that after a few monthsthere will again be some phase of Red Cross work in which I can be useful. Just now my job is to be very lazy and take the best possi- ble care. of myself. I will ask that this one copy suffice for you and Mrs. Baker, and also that it acknowledge my receipt of her recent kindly letter. I am sorry indeed that she has been ill - and with such a painful illness- and that, at such a time, my own failure must add to her problems. I am sending a copy of this letter to Mrs. Vaughan. With love and appreciation, Halen Seath Hay 2
