In this\nletter you ask for a statement in regard to the work I did at the\nCamp in Brevard, N.C.\ne\nBefore your letter came I had seen the News release\nwritten by Miss Chestnut, and must confess that I was a little startled\nby the frank expression of my intimacy with the Queen of Greece. I\nagree with you hhat you should see articles involving the nurses\nbefore they are published. She also made an error in regadd to my\nimportance in establishing the P.H.N. service in Italy. I wondered\nwhat Miss Foley and Miss Gardner would say if they could see that\nparagraph. Miss Chestnut made no notes during our very informal\ninterview, so it was hardly to be wondered at that she should make some\nmistakes. In fact, I did not realize for a moment that she was not\ngoing to\"get the facts\" at another time.\nMy title at the Camp was \" Dean of Women\". That sounds\nrather important, but in plain words it simply means Chaperon. It\nis necessary to have some one to whom the young girls in a mixed Camp\nmust be responsible - some one to talk to them if their costumes or their\nconduct requires a little \" regulation\" - some one to see that they come\nin on ime in the evenings and to give permission for \" late leave \" if\nthey want to go off the grounds to a party, A sort of \" Mother \", in\nshort. Also, some one had to be responsible to see that the /Camp was\nin order, lamps filled when they needed it, plumbing reported when out of\norder, and all that sort of thing\nThat was all therewas to it. In fact, it was a sort of a\nlark, for there was more fun than work. I took part in the First Aid\nClasses, swam with the rest, played games, took part in stunts, etc.\nKept the attendanec records atthe swimming classes and timed the distance\nswimmers\nAfter the Camp broke up I spent a few days with friends\nin Asheville, N.C.
