N 0 eyes, COPY Minutes of the Central Committee Meeting of December 9, 1936 (pages 3266-67) Mrs. Belmont offered the following resolution which was RE CLARA D. NOYES unanimously adopted: VOTED: The sudden death of Clara Dutton Noyes on June 3d deprived the American Red Cross and the nursing profession of a great leader. A clear, vigorous, constructive thinker, with a cheerful philosophy of life, Miss Noyes had hosts of devoted friends. For seventeen years she had been National Director of the Red Cross Nursing Service. During the War she carried an incredible burden of detail in the rapidly expanding pro- gram, and in the post-war period she exerted a genuine and constructive influence on the important developement of nurs- ing service in Europe. Through her personal contacts she built up a strong system of state and local nursing com- mittees over all the country, which have responded fre- quently at the call of disasters. She held many important offices in her own professional group, including that of President of the National League of Nursing Education and of the American Nurses Association and First Vice President of the International Council of Nurses. Her place in the history of the nursing Service of the American Red Cross is secure and her name will ever be remembered with pride and gratitude. 2 of
