My dear Miss 0*Connor:
I have your letter of April 27 indicating that to your knowledge
your conduct as well as your work in Hawaii was in no way a
discredit to the organization.
It is difficult to understand how you can fail to recognize the
significance of the serious breach of your conduct which occurred
during your period in Hawaii. You were found to be under the
influence of liquor and on the evening of November 3, 1942, were
arrested for being disorderly. This is a record which cannot be
overlooked in any case, and I believe you must realize that your
general conduct and work for the three months during which you
were in Hawaii did nothing to make those with whom you were working
believe that your being apprehended for disorderly conduct should
be regarded in any less serious light in your particular case.
We are therefore asking that you return your Red Cross nurse's
badge and appointment eard without delay, as it is necessary, to
annul your enrollment as a Red Cross nurse.
Sincerely yours,
Mary Beard
