1090 Alicia Avenue West Englewood, N.J. F March 14,1945 1 Miss Mary C. Houston American Red Cross Washington, 13, D.C. Dear Miss Houston:- Your March 12th letter has just been received. Thank you for the announcement that my application has been approved by the Red Cross Committee. I could plan to arrive in Washington on Tuesday, March 20th and would be glad to offer my full time services where ever needed until such time that the UNRRA or the Chinese ministry of Health appointment becomes effective. Dr. J. Heng Liu of the Chinese Supply Commission thinks it is more likely that the latter one will come first. However, it will probably not call for my services before July first. It is only fair that I should tell you the only question in my mind at this time. Our Board pays us a furlough salary of $116.00 per month. This includes room rent. Would it be possible to secure a room in Washington, say for $25.00 per month? And where? The only alternative would be to commute to Baltimore, but that would also be expensive. Your kind consideration of my offer and the problem connected with it will be appreciated by Sincerely yours, Lysic Riich
