REPORT OF PERSONAL INTERVIEW
May 5, 1943
Re: MISS STEFANIE SCHLESINGER (HD 2,224)
Miss Stefanie Schlesinger reported at National Headquarters on
May 5, 1943 for a personal interview in response to a request from Miss
Dunbar. She is applying for the position of Chief Nurse in the Wahiawa
Hospital on Oahu Island, Hawaii. Miss Schlesinger is a graduate of the
Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing, Newark, New Jersey, in class of 1932.
She has had interesting positions including service in Newfoundland with the
Grenfell Mission. In spite of full time positions Miss Schlesinger has worked
for her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing Education which she will receive
on May 29, 1943 from the Seton Hall College, Newark, N. J.
The references which we have received for Miss Schlesinger are
excellent and she seemed to us to be exceptionally well adjusted and pleasing
in personality. With a good many "extra curricular" assets, such as ability
to play the piano, sing and an interest and some experience in occupational
therapy, she should be a great asset to the group in Wahiawa. She is Educational
Director for the Babies Hospital, Newark, N. J. and is deeply interested in
teaching and is apparently able in this respect.
The Hawaiian Service was explained to her in detail. She was most
interested and felt that it was a very worthwhile position for her to take.
We have advised her that the appointment was definite pending her
physical examination record which she is to have by Dr. Wm. Kalb, 416 Clinton
Place, Newark, N. J. within a day or two.
The date for leaving for San Francisco was discussed and tentatively
fixed for June 15 so as to enable her to train someone for the position which she
now holds. It would be possible, however, for Miss Schlesinger to leave any day
after May 29, the day in which she receives her B. S. Degree. Miss Schlesinger
mentioned that she intended to take a course in the Kenny Method of Treatment in
infantile paralysis.
She was given the following:
l. Employment Regulations
2. Supplementary Information
3. Duplicate Immunization Registers
