G COPY City of Worcester, Massachusetts, Health Department Dr. May Salona Holmes, Superintendent Belmont Hospital March 14, 1923 Miss Mabel Fletcher, Red Cross Nurses' House, Bayshore, L.L., N.Y. My dear Miss fletcher:- serticult many our dear Miss Smith has had La complete nervous breakdown following another attack of grip. This Came upon her immediately after her last trip during which she visited you I think. She just would not give in and rest or convalesce so that finally her mind just gave way and she was quite clouded for some days. We had her placed under observation for a week but she became so much better thot the consult- ants agreed that her condition was an .aftermath of grip and the whole physical strain since she returned from Italy. They advise a rest and she turns to you. I am writing for her for I wanted to explain this to you and ask you to take herin and mother her until she is strong once more. She is all right only disturbed over what has happened. She can't understand what knocked her out. Will you let me know at once if you can take her in so that we can ar- range for her travel with as little fatigue as possible. You do not happen to know of anyone coming along from this direction who could keep her company, do you? The sooner she gets away from here with its suggestions for work, the better. You will understand what it means for her to need a complete rest, I am sure and will join with us in regret that one we love and admire so much should need it. Most sincerely yours, (signed) May Salona Holmes (original letter returned to miss Fletcher)
