    "ocrText": "May 14, 1942\nAIRMAIL\nMiss Marjory Burns Storey\n411 West 116th Street\nNew York, New York\nMy dear Miss Storey:\nI have your wire of May 13 indicating that you would be interested\nin a hospital assignment with the American Red Cross-Harvard Field\nHospital Unit with the possibility of a transfer later to public health\nnursing. I am, therefore, enclosing the following: physical examination\nforms and insurance notice which should be signed and returned.\nFor your physical examination we are referring you to Dr. John Le\nCaughey, Jr., Presbyterian Hospital, New York City, who has taken care\nof the physical examinations of quite a number of the nurses of the Unit\nand was selected by Harvard for that purpose. He understands that the\nbill for the physical is submitted to the Red Cross for payment. When\nyou make your appointment with Dr. Caughey, ask him what arrangement you\nshould make about your chest xeray as he may wish you to bring the report\nwith you.\nThere are quite a number of difficult forms which need to be made out\nbecause of the necessity of clearance with various authorities including\npassport arrangements. I am not sending these in this letter, however, as\nit seems best to wait to hear from your physical examination report and also\nto give you a chance to look over the more detailed instructions.\nI am sending you tompreer summary of the purpose and set-up of the\nUnit which wes prepared at the time the Unit was organized and also regu-\nlations regarding uniform and clothing. In that our own country is in the\nwar, there is the additional probabilty that the Unit will serve a very\nsignificant purpose in relation to the communicable disease problems of our\nown Army and agreements in this respect are now being arranged.\nI understand that you are not in a position at the present time and,\ntherefore, there is not the question of your having to be released. Our\nplans as they stand now are definitely to. send 10 or 12 nurses within a\nmonth's time and if there abould be any delay in this I should want to let\nyou know as soon as possible so that this would not interfer with your\nopportunity to be earning. Your appointment would not go into effect until\nthe day you receive word to proceed to the port of embarkation at which time\nyou would be put on the Red Cross payroll. I should like to repeat that the\nappointment would be for hospital duty, but with the understanding that you\nwould be considered for any opening which occurs in the public health nursing.\nwork of the Unit.
