    "ocrText": "July 22, 1942\nAIRMAIL - SPECIAL DELIVERY\nMiss Marjory Burns Storey\n568 Wellington Avenue\nRochester, New York\nMy dear Miss Storey:\nI have just come back from England and I long for an opportunity to\ntalk to you and Miss Mikkelsen about the appointment we are asking you to\ntake. Wie have been asked to turn over the American Red Cross-Barvard\nField Hospital Unit to the Army in running order. I left the Hospital\nthe afternoon of July 15, the date on which the staff were to take the\noath as they had had their physical examinations and placed their appli-\ncations the week before. I do not know exactly when this did takeplace,\nhowever, although it must have now taken place. We were permitted to make\ntwo replacements in the staff to be added to those who are to be assigned\nto public health nursing and are delighted that you both can accept the\nassignment. Such an arrangement would never have been possible if you had\nboth not already received appointments before the date when the Aray takes\nover. We shall do everything to push the transportation as it is important\nthat you be there as soon after the date of transfer of the Unit as possible.\nThere are probably to be 9 nurses assigned to public health nursing.\nThe situation is exactly as described to you in Mrs. Vaughan's telephone\nevery intention on the part of the Anny to have the Unit continue to function as a uni\nconversation endJuly 10 and in Mrs. Amick's letter of July 11. There is\nas a unit for the control of communicable diseases under the division of Pre-\nventive Medicine in the Army and to have the public health nurses used for\nthe field work as they have been used the past year. You realize, I know, that\nthis is an experiment and a really thrilling one. The demands of war and\npossible chenges from time to time of personnel in charge, may bring changes,\nbut the plan as set up now is in good faith and has every support of those in\ncharge. Much responsibility for the success will fall on each nurse's being\nequal to what she is expected to do. I do hope there will be an opportunity\nfor me to see you both before you leave.\nI am ordering a topcoat and white uniform for you as I do not know what\nthe Army procedure will be for supplying you and it would be very hard to have\nyou suit most of the time I was there (and often two blouses besides). Do\ncaught without these things even for a short time. I wore a topcoat over take\nmy the question of warm cloghing seriously. I shall write you again of any details\nwhich come up.
