My dear Miss Varrieur:
You doubtless wonder why we have enrolled you in the
Second Reserve instead of in the War Reserve.
As you know, to be eligible for the War Reserve, one
must meet the physical requirements for assignment to active
duty with the Army or Navy Nurse Corps.
On reviewing your report of your physical condition,
we find that because, of your being overweight
you do not meet these requirements.
Because we realize how eager you are to be of service,
we are pleased to approve your application for enrollment in
the Second Reserve, in which you are eligible for all types of
Red Cross nursing assignment other than that of military duty.
