The "Motown Sound" reached out across a racially divided, politically and socially charged country to transform popular music. Gordy's unparalleled contribution to music and popular culture is chronicled in his autobiography, To Be Loved: The Music, The Magic, The Memories of Motown. JOHN LEGEND This American recording artist, musician, actor and social activist is the recipient of nine GRAMMY Awards, and was named to the 2009 TIME 100 list of the world's most influential people. His work includes collaborations with artists including Kanye West, Alicia Keys and Jay-Z. Legend's latest album, Wake Up!, is a collaboration with The Roots featuring an homage to the soulful music of the '60s and '70s. In 2007, Legend founded the "Show Me Campaign," a grassroots movement dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty. SMOKEY ROBINSON Legendary singer, songwriter and producer, Robinson's honey-coated voice connects with listeners in a highly personal way. This Motown legend has earned 37 Top 40 hits during his career, been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, received the Soul Train Music Award for Career Achievement, the GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award, and been a Songwriters Hall of Fame and Kennedy Center honoree. Robinson's latest album, Now and Then, was released in 2010 and was nominated this year for an NAACP Image Award. ROBERT SANTELLI Santelli, a leading musicologist and music educator, is the executive director of The GRAMMY Museum. Prior to joining that organization, Santelli was the vice president of education and public programs at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, before becoming CEO and artistic director at the Experience Music Project in Seattle. Santelli is a longtime member of The Recording Academy, as well as founder and former president of the National Music Museum Alliance. A noted blues and rock historian, Santelli has authored and edited more than a dozen books, including The Bob Dylan Scrapbook.
