Also in locating cultural natorial, teans will request assistance from the intelligonce personnol of all units in the area and arrange with then to forward to the teams any information or lead which night assist then in the discovery of cultural materials. Priority of function is deternined only aftor an initial inspection of the targots and an estinate of the situation is nade. Therofore, the ordor in which the func- tions are listod does not necessarily indicate priority. Protect- 6 The function of protection and presorvation ion and is the prinary function of the Arts, Monu- Proserva- nonts, and Archives team during the combat tion phase. The functions of restoration, rosti- tution and disposition, with the exception of emergency restoration, are confined, generally to the post combat phase. Listed below are specific categories of respon- sibility with which teams will be concerned during the combat phase. Cultural 7 The term "cultural structures" includes Structures monuments and other buildings or sites of religious, artistic, archaeological, historic or similar cultural importance, such as: statues and other immovable works of art; churches, palaces and similar public or private buildings of architectural or historic importance; museum, library and archival buildings; parks and gardens ate tached to such buildings; and ruins of historical or archaeolog ical importance. a. Security: After cultural structures have been located in the area with the aid of official lists and other more com- prehensive lists, the AMA team should, in co-ordination with the Public Safety tean, post notices placing cul tural structures off limits to military and civilian personnel and to post guards utilizing military police or tactical troops around the building or area. -7-
