TARTIER
Dear Mr. President:
It has been brought to my attention that a responsible group of
citizens of Miami and Miami Beach, Florida, have undertaken a
campaign to collect books representative of our nation for shipment
as gifts to the residents of Bogota, Colombia and Fujisawa, Japan.
These communities hold sister city affiliations with Miami and Miami
Beach. The gift books deal with American literature and history, the
sciences and biography.
The campaign will be conducted during the period, July 4 - 14, under
the sponsorship of a citizens group known as the "Greater Miami Books
Abroad Committee" whose chairman is Dr. H. Franklin Williams, Vice
President of the University of Miami. The project has the sanction
and active support of Miami Mayor Robert King High and numerous civic
and professional organizations in the area.
The impetus for this undertaking was the strong desire of many Miamians
to cooperate in an effective fashion with your People to People program
of international friendship.
As an elected representative of these fine citizens I am very proud
of their program in behalf of international goodwill, and feel that
you should be advised of it. Should you desire to acknowledge the
work of these citizens through a note to Mayor High or Dr. Williams,
I am sure such recognition would inspire the campaign to even more
intensive effort.
With warm regards, I remain
Yours faithfully,
Auserad SPESSARD L. HOLLAND Refund
