R epublican national committee 1625 I Street, Northwest, Washington 6, D.B. 9:55 NATIONAL 8-6800 TO LEONARD W. HALL CHAIRMAN SAMUEL P. KING MEMBERFORHAWA1 210 HAWAIIAN TRUST BUILDING September 20, 1954 HONOLULU, HAWAII Honorable Leonard W. Hall Republican National Committee 1625 Eye Street, N. W. Washington 6, D. C. Dear Len: After discussing the matter with Betty Farrington and others, I feel that major item in our general election campaign in Hawaii would be a message addressed to the people of Hawaii from President Eisenhower, if this is at all possi- ble. The messages we have received so far have been excellent. They have, however, been addressed to Republican Party gatherings. With the recent set-back to statehood, the people in general feel that no one in Washington is too concerned about the future of Hawaii. This is illustrated by the gag that we will get statehood when we have two senators. XOF138-A A message from the President acknowledging that we have no voting representation in Congress and stating that he personally feels an obligation to see that Hawaii is treated fairly, and asking the people of Hawaii to support him and the Party he depends upon to help him carry out his program would be extremely effective. 11 If possible, the best timing would be about one week prior to the general election. Will you please let me know what the possibilities are, and whether I should write to any one else concerning this project. Sincerely, XOF 138-A-4 Samel P.Kuzz Samuel P. King SPK:mc
