got down to a discussion of the different plans.
Q Is Russia to be received in the economic discussions?
THE PRESIDENT: (The President gave a negative response
by shaking his head)
Q Can you tell us something about the Food and Drug Acts
that Mr. Tugwell was supposedly working on?
THE PRESIDENT: I don't know any of the details. Rex Tug-
well talked to me about two or three weeks ago when
he first went on duty and said that in his Judgment
there ought to be a very definite tightening up and
revision of the machinery to enforce the Act and also,
possibly, the Act itself. He was going to study it
and I have heard nothing more since then.
Q What did you accomplish with Baruch and others on the
Farm Bill?
THE PRESIDENT: They have not been in yet.
Q Is Mr. Peek in line for an important job in the Farm
Administration?
THE PRESIDENT: He has always helped and will continue to
help.
Q Anything new on banking? Anything new on bank deposits?
THE PRESIDENT: No.
Q Do you expect to have any more messages for Congress
on particular legislation?
