Wrote to the President enclosing a book for the President which was given to him by a
co-worker who says it was presented to his grandfather by Theodore Roosevelt. Tells of
his son, Donald Todd, a born politician, who elected Van Wagner. Also tells of the
convention*being held for United Spanish War Veterans the second week in July. Hopes
the President can say a few words to them. Wishes President luck. Adds co-workers'
address should the President care to thank him. -- The President wrote to Mr. Todd on

With reference to your memorandum of March 21,
it is noted that the letter from Mr. Buckley contains
no indication in regard to the character of the gift.
Accordingly, I am unable to state whether the package

factor is whether the White House desires to pay
four or five dollars for a package without knowing
its contents.

The Hon. Franklin D. Roosevelt
The white House
Washington, D. C,
Dear Mr. President:
During this school term
we have been working on an
Americanism Project the purpose of which
is to train ourselves to become better
informed, and more broad-minded citizens.
We have read much about you as
a man and as a president, and
we admire and respect you
greatly.
Since one phase of our
project is the conservation of birds,
we have designed and made
over one hundred birdhouses. To be
a good american each one of us
tried to build a better house
than the other fellow. When one
member of our class saw in a
recent news reel a splended
view of the White House lawn, he
suggested that our class send
you, as a belated birthday gift,
our best bird house. Floyd Darger,
one member of our class made this
house, but the gift comes from
the class as a whole. you will
note that the house is made for
the woodpecker who keeps on
hammering to get what he needs!
We hope this gift reaches
you in good shape and we
send it with the very best wishes
from the Seventh Grade of Brookford
School.
Respectfully yours,
Clarence Fisher
