November 24, 1942
The Honorable Franklin Delano Roosevelt
The Whitehouse
Washington, D. C.
Dear Mr. President:
The press carried this morning the news item "Coffee will be rationed at
the Whitehouse." Also the First Lady of our Land stated, "My husband
who thinks he is a coffee expert believes that, if dried, grounds can be
used more than once, because in drying they become stronger."
Many men enjoy and make coffee brewing a hobby, and often their results
surpass the most able chefs.
We have for thirty years sold and distributed almost every type of metal,
china, and glass coffee maker and brewer.
The modern and most effective method of brewing coffee is in a Vacuum
Glass Coffee Brewer. Not only are the best results attained in flavor,
aroma, and body--but this method saves coffee. During normal conditions,
one heaping teaspoonful of coffee is required for every cup. The water
rising to the upper bowl and fusing with the coffee grounds requires one
minute of brewing. To conserve coffee and yet get good results, use
one-third less coffee and permit the water which rises to the upper bowl
to fuse with the coffee grounds three minutes, thus giving full and
complete extraction. Further economy is attained by making at least four
cups at a time. This method will save one-third the coffee used heretofore,
and the coffee is really good.
Please accept the three coffee brewers sent you under separate cover in the
spirit of friendliness and admiration for our Commander-in-Chief. The three
coffee brewers are different sizes, ranging in capacity from two to ten cups.
We sincerely hope that you enjoy a good cup of coffee, rationing the quantity,
and please, using the brewers.
Very respectfully yours,
Vavid

I know you are a busy man in these trying times,
nevertheless, I trust you will take out time enough to relax and

I put in and some one suggested I send them to our President.

Who started this war any way? I was in business for myself,
priorities put me out, then went to work for the Aluminum Company of
America in 1933 and again, that word priority again.
Well, Mr President you can believe it or not, having been
around the world, on the trip with the big white fleet in 1908,
having been in business for myself, experienced in personnel work,
love detail work, conducted lecture tours and what is more I am a
100% American, and HONEST,; I am now selling TROMMERS BEER. It now
looks as if I might again be out, looking in, on account of gas
rationing.
If you look at the voting list here you will find me listed
as a republican, but I voted for you every time your name was on the
ballot and always will.
If you are looking for a man that can fit in a picture
where you want to get things done, I will leave for Washington to
night and be the greatest expediter you ever have met.
Allow me to congratulate you on the splendid job you are
doing as President of this great United States and may God spare
your health so as to complete the job you SO ably started to do, namely
pull us all through the worst conflict the world has ever known.
Mr President, we are all with you 100%.
In closing ,I will be sincere in stating that I feel I
am not serving my Country to the best of my ability, in the capacity
of a beer salesman. This country is more in need of HONEST men than
intelligent men. When you have found both, then you have hit the jack

A message from H.M. Packard
For over nineteen hundred years the world has
paused, not for station identification, but for one day
a year to celegrate a birthday. As time marches on
toward the end on 1942, we again prepare ourselves for
the observance of that joyous day of Christmas.
We here in America, have double reason for being happy
this Christmas for, in a world gone mad in the scramble
for power, money and dominance, we still have "Peace on
on Earth Good Will to Men".
Happy we of the American family who during the year
now drawing to acclose, have been able to provide for
ourselves and loved ones in full, or part and what
ever sacrifices we might have made, we stand ready and
willing to make more. For your wonderful work we all
"thank you". To you and yours I sincerely wish a most

Dear Pres. Roosevelt,
With this letter
we are sending you a
gift which we thought

We crocheted it
with the hope af present-
ing this flag to you
personally, but under
the circumstances, which
now face us, we were
unnable to continue
with our plans. We then
thought it best to send
it to you by mail.
How the idea came
