I shall see you tonight but
with a speech in the air I probably shall forget
to mention the handkerchiefs.

you are about to enjoy another birth
for what you have done for us as farmers, I am sending
day, and as a taken of my respect and appreciation
of my frinds pay in is a very good likeness of your lint
a picture to you of yourself which I painted. many
they, like 2, have never seen you in person so me
can not know.
I am the twenty two year old wife of a sexas
farmer and am very happy except for a langing to
become an artist la real one) as 2 have neicher
training, equipment or a chance to look at real paintings,
I'm afraid d shall never amount to much as an
artist.
The material on which your likeness is painted
is of the same heavy material we use in the South
to make Cotton sacks. The paint is the sort you mix
and blend house Paint with. my bruches are pretty
good when they are new but 8 have only had three
sets of new brushes in my life, and Ini painter
for a long time; learned to same brushey by
usimg a ray to put on back ground with.
However, & hope you like this picture just
a little any way and will write and tell me
if is looks like you are not.
may you have a very happy birth day
and many many more of them in the White House.

splendid work you are doing in our country today, and to
also express my appreciation of being employed on the
Federal Music Project. No one, who is not a musician, can
understand just what adversity the musician has been called
upon to face in the past few years, and what the beginning
of the Music Project under the Government means to us. But
you have been told by many, that it means work, work with the
thing that we love, and that we have spent years and money in
perfecting. I do thank you SO much for what you are doing in
that way.
May I say that no other Book, with the exception of the Bible
and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary
Baker Eddy, has impressed mesas this book "Equality" by Edward
Bellamy has done. It seems to me to fairly shine with the
teachings of the Golden Rule. To me it would be a splendid
thing if our Country should be the first to grasp, and put
into practice such a teaching.
All of my life I have been a dyed-in-the@wool Republican, but
I do want you to know that you have gained a firm supporter
through the work that you doing for us, and for so many others.
Sincerely yours,

My dear Mr. President:
Under separate cover I am
sending you a copy of a book Miss Cramer
and I have just published for high school
boys and girls, entitled EFFECTIVE SPEECH.
I thought you might be interested in it
in view of the fact that we have used a
picture of you speaking for the frontis-
piece, and your name is the final one to
be used in the decorative design for the
cover, which includes the names of many
of the greatest exponents of speech arts
since the days of Demosthenes.
An enlarged edition will be
published in the fall, in which we shall
use a number of your speeches, and have OC-
casion to refer many times to your effec-
tiveness before audiences and as a radio
speaker.
You may be interested to
know that most of us who are interested in
es
good speech regard you as the outstanding
example of that art in America today.

My dear Mr. Rankin:
The President has just received the copy
of the book "The Constitution and The Supreme Court
of the United States of America" and asked me to
express his sincere thanks to you and to Mr. Samuel
Niesenson, who illustrated the book, for your cour-
tesy in sending it to him.
I regret to advise, however, that while
holding his present office, the President is pre-
vented from commenting, in any way, on the merits
of the many books, manuscripts, musical compositions,
etc. that come to his attention daily.
I feel sure, upon further reflection, you
will appreciate the President's situation and will
understand why he cannot do many of the things he
would like to do.

Dear Mr. President:
say
Samuel Nisenson at the age of sixteen was my office boy.
When Sir Charles Higham, my associate in London, was
over on one of his annual trips, he met Samuel and noticed he
Missy
had a flare for drawing. Samuel made a drawing of Sir Charles
which was SO good that Sir Charles urged him to quit his job
as office boy and study art.
Samuel took Sir Charles' advice and has made good as
an illustrator. His first book, MINUTE BIOGRAPHIES, sold
165,000 copies. Since then he has published four books.
Grosset & Dunlap invited him to edit, publish and
illustrate THE CONSTITUTION AND THE SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED
STATES OF AMERICA. Mr. Nisenson secured the services of Mr.
George Durant Proctor to put the story of the Constitution and
the Supreme Court into plain language.
I take pleasure in sending you an autographed copy;
I do wish that you would accept this book with my own and
Samuel Nisenson's compliments-- and perhaps write me a letter,
please, which I am sure will be helpful to Samuel Nisenson and
the sale of his book.
Thank you.
Cordially,

Dear Mr. McIntyre:
When we were at San Jacinto Battle Ground last
Thursday, Judge Ray Scruggs of Harris County, handed me the
enclosed joke books which he compiled and asked that I deliver
them to the President, if the opportunity afforded.
I had intended giving them to you on Saturday
last but, as you know, we were compelled to leave the train
rather hurriedly the night before during the time you were at
Mr. Carter's, due to Mr. Jones' air accident.
If you can conveniently do so, it will be much
appreciated if you will hand the books to the President. Judge
Scruggs said that he would be amply repaid for his effort in
compiling these jokes, if the President got one laugh out of
them.

Dear Miss LeHand:
I have addressed this book to you in order that
it may surely reach the President, who will want
to read the explanation at the end which tells
why the Svaap never reached the Naval Academy after
he had cooperated with me toward that end. He was
very much interested in this.
Please tell him that I hope he may find a few mo-
ments of relaxation in the book, which is of the
things he himself likes to do.
Sincerely yours,
